Anybody here ever make money gambling?

In the long run, if the gamblers could beat the house....there wouldn't be a house!!

Exactly. So to answer the original question: NO, no-one has ever made money gambling in the long run. You will ALWAYS lose if you continue to play. You can have short term gains, and IF you have the brains to stop and take your winnings, then fine, but if you continue to play you WILL lose.

I gambled one time in Vegas, playing blackjack.

I won $20.

That's it other than the money I lost at the chuch block parties I played as a kid on the $1 roulette wheel. Still remember the money the money being worth the excitement watching that wheel. Ironic that the church was running it LOL

My mother in law does very well at the casinos. They leave the house with $100. She only puts $5 bill into a machine, and only plays .30 cents a spin. If the machine doesn't hit, she moves along. If it hits, she sits there and plays. She gives my father in law $50 and he loses it all. 9 times out of 10, she'll come home with $150+. So even though he lost $50, she won $100 and they come out ahead. We'll sit right next to her, and lose all night long.

She gets all kinds of free stuff from the casino, too. Free appliances, housewares, complementary rooms. Heck, she walks up to the pit boss and asks if she can have food money. He swipes her card and her husband's cards and puts $30 for food on each of them, and then they'll take us to dinner.

She is the only person I know that actually comes out ahead at the casinos. It's blind luck, I know.

Moss - I have a feeling it may be luck, but at least in part, it may be her technique as well. My wife and I go to Foxwoods or Mohegan a few times a year and each play $50. Our rule is that we stop when out or up by $50. Each visit, one of us is always up a few bucks anyway. The trick is not to get greedy. A $20 or $30 dollar win may be all that you can get out of a night. And that's fine with me, as it pays for the gas to get down there!

I think we could do better with the comps (we don't get any now) if we had the players club cards for each casino.

Up here in the North East, the Indians make a good living gambling....then again, they own the casinos.

It's all luck. She wins raffles, drawings, etc... Heck, she took us to a conservation club picnic and did the cake walk 4 times. She won each of our kids a cake, us a cake, them a cake.

To me casino games of chance are not very exciting...cards are boring and take too much concentration...sports betting is a fools sport...
Although they have been eliminated in most states of late...(and rightfully so for humanitarian reasons)...I always enjoyed greyhound racing...much more exciting than human ridden horses etc...those dogs only cared about one thing...catching that rabbit...!

Old gambling tip:...if you go to the dog track...bet on the rabbit...it wins every race...

There is a reason the house comps gamblers and it is NOT because they are winning. I had a woman supervisor once who made annual treips to Vegas. Aslswasy bragged about winning "And they even comp me!!". I asked if she ever thought about WHY they comped her. No answer.

They comp her to keep her coming back. She knows that. But she's always up a couple thousand at the end of each year. Me? I'm happy to get out of there with a penny ahead.

Gambling quiz: if a flipped coin is heads 10 times in a row, what are the chances of it coming up heads on the 11th time?
