Buying Advice Sick and tired of low quality riding lawnmowers

my dad was on his 7th mower when i sold my ford - about every 2 or 3 years he would buy a replacement - he would spend around 12 to 1500 on his power king, mtd, dynamark, murray, lawn chief, craftsman and the last one was green/yellow i think a yard man? i think most of those were probably made by mtd but anyhow, that was his choice until he was getting unable to work on them to keep them going for a couple yrs - he chose a kawasaki powered country clipper - 2006 - never looked back and its running great no issue - 5500 bucks and now they run around 7500 for the same unit - pay me now or pay me later is the deal pick your poison $$$$ either way they will break at some point

even on low end stuff if you have to replace it every 2-3 years your either doing it because you want to, or your not taking care of it.

I’d be willing to bet that the Yanmar diesel in the JD X700 series will last 4000+ hours no problem. Yanmar diesels easily go twice that long in the marine industry without a major overhaul.

this is why I bought the most basic model, less to go wrong with it. Diesel 2wd

when i sold my gt75 w/shibaura a guy came and bought my 48" deck, he and a friend with a lawn care business both had one, his had over 8000 hours on it and his deck was shot, his friend retired his from mowing and used it to spread fertilizer/weed control and aerate for his lawn care business. He said the last time he asked his friend how many hours it has he said over 18000 and engine was original. not sure i believe that but makes for a good story - although spreading fertilizer and aerating is not hard work for a machine.

my dad is 80, he is still mowing two yards with his zero turn - i plan to be doing the same when i am older I might have to use my backup mower as my wife likes to mow as much as i do

my mom likes to push mow so dad gets the push mower started and turns her loose lol - she is 79 - they have two gardens - i think this stuff keeps them going

Same here. Water's too expensive for that. Then you have to add in the gas to cut the grass you just sprayed money .... errr. ... water on.

I hope to be on Mars at age 86. Elon Musk tells me it will cost ~$500k for a one way trip. That's my retirement plan.
