Those are 12 bale loads and the bales weigh aprox 1,000 pounds each...

SO, 12,000 pounds per load x 5 loads = 60,000 pounds, divided by 2 = 30 tons... (1 ton = 2,000 pounds)

So, 60,000 pounds divided by 50 pounds = 1,200 small squares and that's LOT'S of small squares! AND is exactly why I refuse to do small squares any longer!!

So whats a round bale going for these days? Smaller ones I think..600-700 pounders maybe.

Reason I ask is I have a 10 acre hay field that I rent out to a guy on a yearly basis, he gets about 20 bales twice a year.. I get $600 a year and wondering if I'm getting fleeced.

When we have done hay 'on shares', our equipment and fuel, land owner doing nothing but getting finished bales on the fields, the landowner gets 1/3. So your $600 seems reasonable to me, depending on bale size.

Spent the evening last night moving road bales from the 2 fields down the road before they start completely ripping up the road to re-do it this summer. Even the wife and kids helped! Hard work sitting in the air conditioned truck.

I only do a single layer if I'm driving down the road. 4 trips down the road like this and everything else I have to do is at home.

Ill throw a few on top when I'm home moving them around. Just need to go slow since there are quite a few ruts go through.

I was digging a ditch for an electric service and hit a water main. The locate was about 3 off so this was their problem to fix. It still made a huge mud hole. View attachment 612412

Been there, don't that !
Was told by the Company that marked the line, that it was my responsibility to check out the trench while digging... They were right on top of the line just it was a little shallow and I didn't take my time... Thank God the line was plastic and the local Ag Store has a Slip Coupling... fixed it but was still getting some sentiment until the new filter system was installed.
Also, lost three Toliet Valves.

This was the water companies line, not the smaller house line. I have rock teeth on my backhoe. The less sharp regular teeth might not have broken it.

Years ago one of my crew hit a waterline that was 3 feet from where it should have been. He hit it with a track loader catching the bell with a tooth. It was a 10 inch main and 3 feet too shallow. Top of the pipe was an inch below the curb.
Cleanest I ever saw that loader the undercarriage was spotless.

Just left it there while calling the water company . . . and probably the locate company. 10" main can puke a lot of water out.

I’d hate to see what a mess that would make. This was only a 2.5” line at the end of the road. It still put out a lot of water.
