Ford mileage claims sparks lawsuit

The nice thing about my new Ram 2500 Power Wagon. There is a small program that automatically calculates miles per gallon. I have gone 5350 miles and averaged 18.1 mpg. I'm very pleased with the Taco Wagon. My F-150 now belongs to my son.

My F-150 showed 0.5 to 1.0 mpg more than actual when it was new. Now, with about 15,000 miles, it seems pretty accurate. I have no clue on why this happens, but no one should quote their vehicle computer unless they have checked it with several calculations.

Mine has never been more than .3 off anytime I've checked, and that's been from day one. Just over 18K miles currently, still always very close.

Look guys - this is me. I'm 77 and am having to be drug into this dam digital age by my heals. For the first 3700 miles or so - I didn't even know the mpg calculator was part of the digital dash. Yes - for the first 3700 miles I did manual calculations. At 1500 miles I was getting 16 mpg. From 1500 to around 5200 it's been 18.1 mpg.

Every time my son comes out and plays with the programs in the Taco Wagon - I learn more. Just yesterday I found that I can check - engine coolant temps & auto trans oil temps thru a digital readout on the secondary display. I don't have to rely on the analog display for these temps. I've learned how to zero out and set the multiple trip logs.

So my very nice Samsung flip phone would not "pair up" with UConnect - I had to spend $800 for an Apple XR iPhone. And Apple iTunes doesn't like that I want to listen to - Guns-N-Roses, the Oak Ridge Boy, Charlie Daniel band, Men at Work or Alabama. It wants me to listen to some weird a*sed crapola. Sirius XM Travel Link keep suggesting that I "take a trip"

And the one time I tried to "pair up" my new Apple iPhone and make a hands free call to my son - I got SiriusXM Emergency Services.

BUT - I can start the Taco Wagon and it drives very nice. I figured out how to adjust the ten-way driver's seat and lock the setting into Memory 1.

At least, now, when the digital display turns on - it doesn't look like some Carnival side show display to me. I'm getting there.

I drive a 2000 F250 Powerstroke AT 4x4. 257,000 miles on the ticker. Out of curiosity I checked the overhead mileage display. 18.34 mpg. It's never been reset.

I have a 2016 with the 3.5 ecoboost fuel economy is hand checked against the computer and is usually less than 1 mpg off. Usually get over 19 mpg around town. Highway around 21 mpg.

So assuming the overhead is accurate, if I'd quit pulling my GN I could hit 20mpg!!!

The Taco Wagon is a 6.4 L Hemi. However - it will go into Economy mode when max power is not needed. So it goes from a 6.4L ( 390 ci) to a 4.8L ( 292 ci ) in the Economy mode. The Economy mode drops two cylinders. It has a system called MDS. This certainly helps on a truck that weighs - 7540#.

My wife's 2011 Grand Cherokee has that. I didn't like it at first. Now I just ignore it. I can't think it does much for economy. Not sure what hers gets for mileage or what it weighs.

There were questions being asked about the claimed mpg numbers for the Ford Ranger. Then, TFL went on a 1000 trek to log mpg numbers.....hmmm...not so good. Yes, they talk about Ford's method of figuring mpg.
