The only good white cheddar is/was from Canuckistania.

We used to get some when we traveled across the border for whatever reason. It had a bite that would curl your toes. I can find stuff with the same 'Black Diamond' brand name in stores today, but it AIN'T the same cheese!!!! Either that or my rememberin' ain't so good no more.

Wait ....

Now what was I saying?

I am not a cheese snob and don't have a very refined palate. My daily go-to cheese is Tillamook Extra Sharp Cheddar and comes in a black package. In a pinch, Cracker Barrel (Kraft) Extra Sharp is good too. I seldom eat cheeses that I can't pronounce.

put a piece of american or white american on top of your apple pie, an hit it with the microwave for a few seconds. Give it a try. If you don't like it you NEVER have to try it again. Honest.

 Been eating mine (at home) on occasion like that (white American) for years . Something like pineapple pieces on your pizza , which I like also ....

The Washington State apples that I have tried generally have much less flavor than the NY ones.
One reason for that is that apples grown on the Southern shore of Lake Ontario have a higher acid content than the Washington State ones.

Those are both good, but I have tried a Washington State Fuji next to a NY Fuji and the NY Fuji had a lot more taste, the Washington State one was just bland and blah by comparison.

True enough... the acid levels in the soil are a huge driver in the taste. And also true enough... the taste can vary based on the orchard they come from even from nearby areas. Exactly the reason why some wines (vineyards) are more coveted than others within a particular appellation.

Red Delicious? Note that Red Delicious was NOT in the list of apples that I had in my post, IMO they are only good for apple sauce and juices.
We get a lot of apples in at work to store, some come from Washington State, but most come from NY.

A lot of people think that pineapple on a pizza is sacrilege but I enjoy it also. One of my favorite sandwiches is Peanut Butter/ Banana and Honey (or syrup). Some folks just dont get it.

I'm 'a ditch whichever 'scrip makes me lactose intolerant lately. 24 oz cottage cheese says "6 servings". When for you it's more like 3-4, it's a heckuva cheese to have to give up. :(

Can't eat CoJack by ounces for a while either, sooo good in a brown-bag lunch that lets it get to the right temp by mid-shift. IMO, the same 'prep' is best for aged Swiss & brown mustard on whole wheat. (aging brings out Swiss' tang, room temp lets you appreciate it, 120 days-aged is heavenly when not eaten too cold) Call me weird, but IMO melting Swiss doesn't do much for it's flavor, reminds me of American, the tofu of cheeses. (Melted, both coat the tongue and IMO block other flavors. Thanks anyway.)

Mom made strawberry jam and cream-cheese sandwiches 'on white' for us, called them 'parley voos'. We loved 'em. I tell someone to try & they wince. :confused3: That they can't imagine a 'cheesecake sandwich' is the one thing I can guess as to why. (More for us.) btw, I learned as a single Dad of a preschooler (best job EVER!) that a kid will eat what you want to serve if you give them a choice between liver & onions ("what's that, Dad?") and the Polish and Kraut, glazed ham, sweet & sour chicken on rice, or whatever you planned.

I was putting pineapple on pizza (w/ham& pepperoni) when I got out of OD in '71. They'd pick it off. I sort of gave up pizza since but do eat a slice or two, esp when there's pineapple on it. :)
