Man, this one circled the drain fast. RSKY, thanks for the update. I致e been thinking about her and keeping her in my prayers. Glad to hear she is recovering. That one wound scares me. I知 glad she has an alert mom and is getting good care. Hopefully it heals up soon. After the physical healing, I知 guessing she will need some mental healing. A long time ago I had a life-threatening incident as a child. It really screwed me up mentally. Even to this day there are a couple of things that agitate me pretty quickly. Luckily she has a great, loving and attentive mom. That will help a lot.
Despite all the crap that follows your updates, please keep them coming as appropriate. I am sure there are others who are concerned about her.

I too thank you for the update. I struggle to get the image of the Mom trying to corral the dog while it's mauling her child. Can't blame anyone in that neighborhood for controlling straying dogs. All the dog owners should know that and control theirs.

I really don't see how anyone can argue in favor of pit bull type dogs...of course they are not alone but they are way ahead on the curve...and personally I think the breed and sub breeds should be eradicated from public ownership...

And how can ANY law abiding citizen be in favor for ANY semi automatic rifle with a detachable magazine where it's easy to kill a crap load of people in an general area?

That said, I honestly see why someone would want both a Terrier type of breed (that everyone just calls a "pit bull") along with owning a AR15.

Let me make it simple for you.

Kid gets shot with a gun, sorry for the kid. Never should of happened.

However, what happens is the talk becomes that guns are dangerous and should be outlawed.

That's a kid to me, he was homeless and the dog owner wanted to help him out, he didn't out of the blue jump into just anyone's backyard.. Yes place was a mess like most places that house a pit bull..

I struggle to get an image a mom who is being told that her child was killed by a semi automatic rifle ANYWHERE in the United States.

I have a GSD and a yellow lab, they will bark at you and look mean which is my preference but are really big babies, if I had any inclination that they would do something like this they would be done.

We've owned a GSD, an English yellow lab and a terrier breed that everyone considered a "pitbull". Out of 25 years with 3 dogs, never had one bite with ANY stranger on our property. People were most afraid of the the terrier breed, but the reality is she was more afraid of those people than she was of her.

Miscellaneous comments to the off the rails comments.
Each situation is a little different. There are very few absolute specific actions applicable to every situation.
IT, my GSD is very well trained. We get many compliments on her behavior with people. She does well with other dogs with slow introductions. Small or aggressive animals will get her going. With small dogs, so far she has just gotten behind them and ran them off by nipping them in the butt. But if one ever turns and keeps challenging, I fear it won稚 be pretty. One neighbor has a cat that taunts her. I am afraid one of these days that will end badly for the cat. My neighbor better not shoot my dog. They know it is a problem and still let it roam. My experience has been most small dog owners let their dogs be aggressive. Keep them on a leash and do not let them run onto my property.
Sig, as a friend, I suggest you ease off a bit. Most dogs, like most people, are pretty good. There are a few bad ones out there and unfortunately they have to be dealt with. Hopefully somebody with skills steps up and trains the dog but a parent and spouse have a right to protect their family. For the girl in this situation , I hope there is no further trauma. She needs to feel safe. The dad almost lost his little girl. Shooting strays is harsh but in their situation I will not criticize them.
For the kid in Texas, I suspect there is more to that story than we know. I sure hope it is just a situation that went unintentionally bad.
I suggest we all count our blessings and find ways to make good of what life throws at us. Lord knows I carry a lot of tension and pain around. It is a lot easier to bear with a smile and remembering the good in life.
