Those modern gasifiers are nice. If I ever change over that's what I'll get. But for now our stove is a 18 year old England add-on furnace for a hot air system. So it has a plenum around it with a blower and a 10" duct connection on top. I made an upper plenum/connection box from a defunct dehumidifier cabinet. It has louvers and I added an adjustable door for heat to the basement, a 4" duct to the main bathroom, and a 6" duct to the living room which splits so there is a register beside ma's chair and one beside my chair. Plus heat goes up the stairway to heat the kitchen. Very simple but keeps us nice and comfy. :)

I saw on CL a guy who cut his plastic tote liners on a diagonal then put them over the totes like a Gable roof. I think he used rope or wire to hold them onto the totes. I guess if you cut into the face of the Gable you could get a little more wood in there, but not as much as ShooterDons idea.

Is the plastic tub used in totes UV resistant? I always store my tote inside (used to haul water, not wood).

No idea. The ones I have were used to transport liquor from one distillery to another.

This time of year I might have 1 or 2 fires a week and ramp up to 1 burn a day mid winter. The heat storage is key.

WOW... this time of year I have the AC blowing 24/7!!!

Trying out an idea for adding capacity and a rain cap to an IBC tote for my firewood storage plans

The LS 4140 handled the weight fine. I figure there is .4 of a cord of wood in there. I was going to build a car port to store wood but this is cheap and makes use of most the plastic bin that is a PITA to dispose of. Now I only have the bottom few inches to deal with.

The 2x4's are screwed to the plastic bin and the assembly rests on the top rail of the tote. I doubt the wind will lift it off by I can attach it to the tote rails if that happens.

Oh, I like it!! Might have to try that.

I have a smudge going right now. It's about 56' and rainy outside, so I'm burning spruce to ward off the dampness.

In addition to the tarm, we have a wood fired fireplace. The whole fam loves it, too. Good in shoulder seasons and awesome on super-cold winter days or after skiing or something. Nothing beats that radiant heat (and we have radiant floor heat).

We drop our firewood into the basement through a window,

where it stays right where it lands, near the woodstove. Next time anyone touches it, it's picked up and thrown in the stove...

We kept the cookstove and use it periodically through the year and of course during power outages:laughing:
