What would be the advice on a proper size finishing mower (5' or 6') on my 2610D? 31hp engine with 25hp at the PTO. Also is Country Line an okay brand? Thanks ..David

You can use a 6 foot. The rear discharge I think requires less HP to clear the deck as a tip.

I have used a 6ft bush hog brand finish mower behind my YM2000 . Now it's all it wants but as long as you stay after it regular and don't have crazy thick tall grass it can turn it. The thickest spots I took a 4-5 foot bite, but that was really overgrown stuff also. Also this was a side discharge where you have to move all that grass to one side to clear the deck.

5Ft. for me. 20@ the PTO so it's quite a bit less than you have. Rear Discharge is the way to go. I'll never go with a side discharge again!! Weekly mower this time of Yr. so I've put a lot of Hrs. on it over the past 12 Yrs.. I use second gear on the PTO now that it's locking and staying in gear. 1800 Eng.Rpms all day long...;) I went down to a 4 on my BH. " The Beast" BA........

Are you mowing weekly now? There is nothing to mow in the last three weeks. I think that's how long it's been for me and it basically looks just like it did the day after I cut it. We have really gotten almost no rain in the last month or two

I don't or should I say quit using high lift blades even. Straight blade. They don't wear out "but" Of course JD. wants twice as much for them. High lift mulching type 3 seasons maybe and they're worn slap out. I found with the rear discharge I have no problems what so ever using them. I may have to replace them next season. I actually forgot how long ago I started using them and just pulled the Receipt.6/08/12. That's plain crazy!! but true.......
Yup! Clemsonfor a little over a week. I was out blowing leaves this Eve.. SMH. looking up at the front. I'll be cutting in a couple days after the rain hit. Man we had a gully washer go through. Most rain we've had in one time in Yrs. from the looks of the runoff. Come Oct. I'll get the BH. out and clean up the wooded areas.

David in general terms you should be able to spin a 6 ft BH with no difficulty with a 26 hp at the PTO. The only potential issue would be what you are cutting. If cutting the typical weed infested grass and it is short enough you can see any objects in the grass, still no problems with a 6 ft BH.
However, if you plan to cut what I would consider to a good hay crop (thick and tall grass) then back down to the 5 ft unit.
As far as the Country Line brand, I will initially confess I am not familiar with it. But most brands have an economy line, which I would advise you to avoid. The simplest and it is generally true is if they have 2 models go with the one with thicker steel on the deck.
If you want to compare specs, look for thickness of stuff it is rated to cut. The heavier duty unit will serve you better over the long term.

If I we're going to cut a hay crop I would use a bush hog. These finish mowers are just not designed to do that. Sure you can, it's just really hard on them. The rear discharge won't have as much trouble but I know that Bush Hog side discharge that my uncle has will start slipping the belt when you try to cut grass to tall. This is with the correct BH brand belt, it's just a lot of grass to try and cram out the side chute. This is not a HP issue as my 20 PTO HP will just smoke that belt as the grass stops it up.

Oh my bad. I saw the above picture of Careyo63’s bus hog and then had BH on my brain. You should see the BH was used throughout that post.
Again my bad!
To change gears just a bit, making the assumption that you are looking to cut a lawn area and keep it cut on a regular basis (in my area that is generally weekly) you would be fund with a 6 ft finish mower.
It basically goes unsaid, but the quality of appearance is generally very different between a BH and a FM. If you want the lawn look you want a FM. If you want a pasture or the hayfield look then the BH.
Sorry for any confusion my confusion may have created.
