Personally, I don't care too much but do appreciate proper grammar, spelling, usage of words. I especially appreciate when I order a coke and the waitperson let's me know they don't have Coke.

But when someone says, "Let's have a coke and talk about it", do you demand that it must be a CocaCola or you won't discuss the issue? Context, DE, context. We do have some in some of these threads who want to act like they are drafting legislation.

When you shove the cartridges that are clipped together into your Garand what are you shoving it into? You are shoving the cartridges clip and all into a magazine. Hence it is called an en-bloc clip. The Clip and all 8 of the cartridges get put into the magazine. On a 98 mauser, you use a stripper clip to put cartridges into the magazine. as the clip is discarded and does not go into the magazine after the cartridges are stripped from it.

Magazines hold cartridges to be fed into the chamber of a firearm. Clips are one way to load magazines. You can also load magazines one cartridge at a time by using your fingers or other tools.

When you shove a magazine into the magazine well of a semi auto pistol, you are NOT shoving a clip into a magazine. The magazine well of of semi auto pistol WILL NOT hold cartridges for feeding into the chamber of the firearm. Only the magazine will do that. IT IS NOT A CLIP.

The Magazine has feed lips that retain the cartridges and allow for feeding them into the chamber. Clips DON'T have feed lips. None of them. Not even the en-block clip you shove into your Garand. The magazine in the Garand serves that function.

Now all of that said, you can call a magazine a clip if you want to, and you can call a setting hen a rooster if you want to, but you would be using incorrect terms. So hopefully you will now understand why it is such a wrong terminology Savage Arms notwithstanding.

Words have meanings, and using the correct words that are generally accepted by the community that makes and uses these products are no different in this case than any other product. As an example if you want to call a steering wheel on an automobile a flywheel, you can feel free to do so.

That others might correct your wrong usage of words does not mean they are trying to feel superior. They are just trying to educate you on the correct terminology. Whether you feel inferior or not is totally up to you.

You sir are very well spoken.

Dont sell yourself short, I got a kick out of your previous post, when I buy a handgun next year I might call it a rooster fed handgun...... My younger son is in the National Guard, went to Fort Leonard Wood in 07, so that might have something to do with his strong terminology stance.

IMO the premise that nomenclature is part of the issue is bunk...Yes a lot of firearm enthusiasts freak out when a news / media person or a protestor etc., etc...incorrectly identifies or describes a firearm's capability or accessory...but it's insignificant...what the anti-gun public and the media think/say does not matter...

...What does matter is the writing on the wall...it's only a matter of time...

Fighting tooth and nail against any new infringements will be futile...if "they" are not steered in the right direction (by targeting kooks and not guns)...it could be like the way the health care act was passed...with a 100% partisan majority, behind closed doors in the middle of the night...without any bipartisan debate what so ever...signed, sealed and delivered....It could happen, the writing is on the wall read it and weep...!

I too, appreciate proper grammar, spelling, and usage of words; to the point where I often will use a dictionary while posting, if a word doesn't sound right. I also realize that many people don't write or spell perfectly; yet their point is just as valid, even if their "e" is before "i" when there is no "c".

Ironically just a few hours ago I was called out in another thread for
your tendancy to be every ones spell checker very off putting
because I mistakenly thought somebody's spelling error was caused by spell check. Had I realized that it was an honest mistake, I never would have mentioned it.

Let’s is a contraction of let us. So would it be let us me know? Or let me know?

Sorry :D

I hereby confess that I have asked a wait-person for a 'cola'. :ashamed:

Yet I got no funny looks, and was well-served.

Shooting my AR uppers (.25, .30 .35) while I still have them is a bit more important, ... but "That's just me." (World's greatest FU-excuse.)

Politics and talk are 'intangibles'. I have other terms. "Drama" (any day but voting day. Oh, me of simple mind.)

Shoot 'em if you got 'em, boys & girls!! And plan your tomorrow AFTER you win the lottery, ok?

btw, atsah, you won my respect and admiration long before you started this thread. Thanks for bringing us a place to air our views.

Thruthfully all this talk of clips and magazines all pale before the supreme ammunition feeding device; the belt.

So the next time they ask for your order, and they say "what will you have?", reply "I think I will have something in a belt fed". :)

I will always remember the day a guy said "here your turn" as I sat on the ground behind a Browning Air Cooled 30 cal. with a 200 round canvas belt in place. It didn't last long, but it sure was fun.

Almost as much fun was reloading the belt with a hand cranked belt loading machine he had clamped up on a table.
