"New" old Mott 48 Hammer Knife Mower!!

Wow, I was in a friends barn and between two old Mustangs was a Mott 48 Hammer Knife in all its glory with original PTO drive shaft!! Purchased it right away and he delivered it!. Attached are some photos of it. It is serial number 514. Anyone know how old this is? The story is that his neighbor bought it and used it a couple of times and my friend bought it with a bunch of other stuff when his neighbor stopped farming. It was too small for my friend's operation so he parked it in his barn on concrete. So, here it is! The big question is "does anyone know where I can get some original Mott Hammer Knife polish and wax"? As you can see, it has a few scratches! - Hah!

That is one great looking flail mower gbart14!!!!! Taking it to the car wash when the mowing season is done is first on the list before sandblasting and painting.

Do the flails rotate the opposite direction since the pulley to power it is on the left side?

No way is this going to a car wash or being sand blasted. It is completely original with only surface rust in the corners. Most of the black you see is dirt and grease. It still has the paper sticker on it from the distributor up in Washington. May not be another one like it at least in this area. Although rusty, the blades are still sharp and usable. I am going to lube it up, change the oil in the gear box, check the belt and use it to mow my couple of flat acres. I have another 48 exactly like it which is well use but maintained that I will probably park for parts or sell it.

If anyone needs information about a very original 48, please let me know and I would be happy to take some photos.

I have the same exact mower with the same drive square gearbox which I would think would be called "right side drive" relative to the driver facing forward. It discharges out the back so the rotation is clockwise looking at it from the driver's right side. I did notice that the knives are longer on this unit so I will have to see how it functions.

They make a very fine cut. My field looks like a golf course when I am done.

Nice mower. I googled it and all I got was Mott The Hoople. Go back and get those 'stangs! At least pictures, years.

He has several Mustangs, Galaxies, Falcons, etc. A real Ford guy. I have several, as well. Tight knit group up here in Oregon. Sorry, did not get any photos of his.
