This sounds like 12 cord of tree length firewood, that's a lot of wood for one season.

He likes to keep 2-3 years worth ready to go. Good thing he did, as he was out of commission with health issues for an entire year, so we'd keep the inside full & his wife would feed the stove.

He would try to keep the tree length log stack down to just one log loader truck worth, but still now & then he'd get a couple in before we could split it all. The conveyor made it easy to move it right over to the split stacks.

Comparing the leaves to this pict.,

it's a "Swamp White"

I learned something today, I always thought I had tons of Red oak trees, since the wood is red inside. But according to the leaf chart, I have Black oaks.

SR's pic of red oak is different than what we call red oak here. There are 60 oak species in the US so I am sure things vary by region. The two main families are White and Black Oak. Red Oak is a member of the Black Oak family. According to Iowa State Univ. this is a Red Oak and is what a Red Oak looks like here in the NE. Here is the link to ISU.

And the third grade way of telling red oak and white oak apart...

The lobes of a white oak leaf are rounded like the white mans bullets..

The Lobes on a red oaks leaves are pointy like the red mans arrows

When I was younger, I never knew there were so many different oaks... I just called everything Red or White.

I'm betting "these days", you'd almost need to do DNA on an oak to figure out which one it REALLY is! lol

Take an oak to most sawmills, to sale it, and it will either be a red or white, no matter what it is...

Would willow trees work?

 Willows are one of the invasives I want to stop. The willows we have grow to about a foot diameter, then fall over. Then the trunks root and grow a bunch of trees along the trunk. You can cut them as firewood and the take root in the firewood pile :banghead: They never get tall enough to provide much shade plus the roots seem to clog up the stream. I just want something to grow tall, provide shade and not spread.

Weeping willows here, become GIANTS, and get there fairly fast... I have none of the problems described above.

I have quite a few of them on my property...
