How much horse power(vehicle) needed to pull 1000 tons weight trailer?

If this is real, it would be in the top five of the heaviest loads moved, in modern times. To safely move that much weight would take several trucks. The funny part, they don’t make that much horsepower, 500-600 is all, but they’ll have over 2,000 torques. You’re also looking at a custom built trailer and a crew of Dozens, just to get it moveable. I’d guess you’re looking at hundreds of thousands of dollars. For example, it takes $25-50k to move a house. Houses are simple, weight-wise, but tougher width-wise. Only one truck needed to pull, none to push.

About 10 years ago we thought about moving the in laws house here and price was about $40K. Even that would have been a major operation, having a concrete slab here then contractor to attach it to this house. Mainly for sentimental reasons, but it would have added about 1600ft. extra we didn't need.
The moving company said it was do-able, they move at 2-3am, the utility company rep. I spoke with said everything has to be orchestrated because they have to cut then reattach power lines, traffic lights, etc. as they move. A major move and 15 miles.

To "calculate" this math problem, you need to know many variables. First one is friction. What type of wheels/tires are you using on what type of surface and how much friction is there with 1kt loaded on them? Are you traveling up or down a grade and what exactly is that grade? Can the ground support this weight with x amount of wheels? Can it be done in cold temps using skis that would spread the load? Do you have to make any turns that would multiply the complexity of your "trailer"?

Is this just a math problem that was presented to you at school?

If I recall they got the train up to 5mph but he calculated it could have gotten it up to 20-30 or so. And it took almost 5 minutes to do that 0-5mph acceleration. Of course that's only relevant for super low friction steel wheels on perfectly level steel tracks. It wouldnt work anywhere else & most importantly has almost no useful way to stop it.

Steel wheel trains are the lowest form friction transportation we have. Those heavy haul trailers with hundreds of wheels are way higher friction.

I’m not convinced this is real, but it is an interesting discussion. Why go to a tractor forum? If I was going to need this move, I would be on a trucking forum.
