Why Potato Farmers Are Rushing to Stave Off a French Fry Shortage
Time|48 minutes ago
Potato processors are rushing to buy supplies and ship them across North America in order to keep French fries on the menu after cold, wet weather damaged crops in key producers in the U.S. and Canada. Cool conditions started to hit growing regions in October, lashing potatoes with frost. Farmers in Alberta and Idaho were able to dig up some ...

I noticed in the store today that hash browns seemed to be priced higher than usual.

This is the first time that I have had a potato crop failure. Never seen that before. Where are us Irish go now? Saint Patrick pray for us. 491.JPG This pic is a normal year.

Cheers,
Mike

Speaking of-
First potato ever-

The Inca Indians in Peru were the first to cultivate potatoes around 8,000 BC to 5,000 B.C. In 1536 Spanish Conquistadors conquered Peru, discovered the flavors of the potato, and carried them to Europe. Sir Walter Raleigh introduced potatoes to Ireland in 1589 on the 40,000 acres of land near Cork.

My potatoes didn't do particularly well this year, got maybe half of what I normally get.

You're making me thankful that I raised a good crop. They didn't get that big but I have enough to get through the winter. I guess that you can say they're "small potatoes." Nyet, nyet, nyet.

My crop was close to normal, but the taters were smaller than normal. Last year my crop was the largest ever, in both total weight and potato size. It all evens out. I did enjoy some hash browns with my fried eggs and sausage on Saturday, and mashed potatoes last night for dinner. Nothing better than home grown potatoes.
