I'd suggest you (or a young relative) list the machine on FaceBook Marketplace. A couple of good pictures and a good description will get you results from local folks with no fees. Don't have to show a phone number, but can ask for one once contact is made by interested party.

This thread has taken an interesting turn. I知 not that worried about payment or scammers. It痴 a $10k machine, and getting stiffed on that would really piss me off, but it痴 not so much that it痴 going to break the bank or change my retirement date.

But I gotta call out this post, 4570Man. Why do you have insurance on a tractor? If you have others using it, and wanted liability coverage for a potential lawsuit, that makes sense. But if you pay loss coverage insurance money on every item you own, the only ones typically benefiting from that are the insurance companies.

My philosophy is to only carry insurance on things that would be absolutely catastrophic to lose, which I am unable to replace with acceptable immediacy from my own funds, namely my house and any brand-new car. I have a $7500 deductible on my homeowners for this reason, and pay a much lower premium as a result of it. I知 not going to submit a claim for a $600 repair, and suffer the potential premium increase, so why carry the typical $500 deductible?

I壇 propose that carrying theft or damage insurance on any tractor presently worth less than three months salary is foolish, unless you need it for your business and can稚 otherwise replace it from your own funds.

I bought my used TLB for 32K back in June, and had to trailer it for 350 miles.
Trailering a combined 12K koad for 350 miles, behind a 2500 HD Suburban, I felt I needed tractor insurance.
That is an uncomfortable amount of weight on the highway, when pulled by a 2500 HD 454 Suburban (1200# on the hitch ball).

I tried to get coverage just for the trip, but had to buy a 1 year tractor loss policy for $500.
I would like to keep just comprehensive coverage for fire loss, but I don't think there is a way for me to do that.

I suppose $500 (1.6% of 31K) for a year (32K - 1K deductible) is not too bad.
I will need to think about it in June, when it will be renewal time.

I suppose I could afford the loss if it were to happen.
My homeowners policy will NOT cover a $32,000 tractor value.
Thinkin....I'll probably renew though.

"three months salary" ????
I have not had a "salary" (retired) for 19 years.
Monthly retirement income maybe?

Because I leave it on jobs and I wouldn’t be all that surprised if it got stolen. Paying insurance or paying for the loss is more than a lifetime break even period. If it wasn’t insured I wouldn’t leave it and then I’d waste more fuel hauling than a pay in insurance.

Having insurance for true theft as you are describing here, makes complete sense, though you should also make every effort to secure your machine at a jobsite.
Obviously do not leave the keys in it, and do whatever else you can to make starting/operating difficult, if not impossible.

Your M59 is a machine MUCH desired by thieves!

That’s an interesting one, I had not considered that. In fact, I’ll be paying $32k + tax for a new machine next week, and trailering it home. The drive is much shorter than yours, and I likely won’t bother with insuring it, but it is something to think about.

Yes, in your case, I was mostly speaking to homeowners with a tractor for personal use. But isn’t all of your equipment covered under a single business policy? Do you really need to insure the tractor individually? We have a lot of small boxes that cost $100,000 - $250,000 each, where I work, and I believe they’re all covered for theft under a single policy.

Of course I take the key but that’s close to useless. I do my best to park it out of sight but that’s not a fail proof plan. I really need to come up with a better anti starting interlock.

Yup you sure do!
You would spend a lot of time and money to replace an M59, unless of course, you bought a new one $$$$$$.
Can you bisect the positive battery cable with a simple hidden knife switch?

You can’t even do that. You’d have to settle for a M62 with all of the emissions stuff.

My homeowners insurance covers theft, storm damage, structure falling on it, etc. I briefly considered insuring mine when my dad almost rolled it off in the creek, but I decided it's cheaper to just not let him on it...
