Kubota mx5200
I put 8 quarts in and it is at the top of the dipstick full level. My manual says it holds 10 quarts. I changed the filter also. This has to be a typo in the manual. What are your experiences with the 5200 or the 5800?

I have a 2009 Kubota M6040. The Op Manual says 11.6 quarts with filter change. It actually takes 13.7 quarts with filter change. Go figure.......

Obviously an engineering estimate as opposed to a field trial.

Did you remove both drain plugs?

Both plugs.

Level concrete floor.

You won't ever get it all out. Some will remain in the trans itself, plus whatever is in the hydraulic lines, hoses, cylinders, etc.

When I do an oil change my MX5200HST will hold 8 qts also.

I think the OP is talking about engine oil not the hydraulic system.

No, it don't. OP is talking about engine oil, not hydraulic oil. Kubota is very vague about fill capacities on all their machines, mine included. Just use the dipstick and fill accordingly Mine calls for 12 quarts and it holds 13.5 with the filter on one machine, the other identical machine but 2 years older holds 12.5 quarts. I just go by the dipstick. Same with the hydraulic fluid level.

Most everything I own is like this. Including my Kubota.

I just fill it until it reaches the appropriate markings on the dipstick.

I also try to make it a habit of checking fluids before starting a machine -- especially one that has sat for a week or more.

I even check the fluids in all my vehicles every 3 days or so.

It's also interesting to note the color of the fluids too.

Maybe a dumb question, but did you run the engine before checking dipstick level? Filter will hold at least a quart, maybe more. Not sure about your machine, but on all of mine, engine has to run to fill the filter volume.

Yeah.

Thanks for the replies. I think it's a great machine it's just 2 quarts low to the manual which it super weird to me.

My ex wife accused me of being 2 quarts low as well.

Have you ever compared the dipstick lengths? The oil volume might not be wrong the dipsticks might.

I have in as much as I own 2 M9's, 2 years in build date apart and both dip sticks are the same length. Having said that, the operators manuals state different lube oil capacities.

As an FYI, as long as the transmission fluid level is just below the lower edge of the PTO output shaft on any Kubota (sitting on a level pad), the level is fine.

I've changed the oil twice so far on my MX5200. Both times I bought the 2.5 gallon container (10 qts) to cover the 9.9 courts as stated in the manual. Both times I had a lot left over. Probably about 2 quarts. Won't be buying the 2.5 gal anymore.

I buy all my lubricants, motor oil, hydraulic oil, gear oil and grease in quantity. Motor oil and hydraulic oil in 55 gallon drums, gear oil in 5 gallon pails and grease in 150 pound open head drums, all delivered to the farm by my supplier and my supplier takes my drained fluids too so recycling isn't an issue. been doing that for years.
