Tractor
LS MT125, Backhoe, MMM
In my 70s and may buy a tractor for my 10 acres. No farming but have trees down to saw up and move. Have a ditch along driveway to maintain. Want to fill in some places and dig out in others. Have some grass to cut.

Looking at compact or sub-compact. Saw Tony Lay's videos on youtube and impressed with his MT125H LS Tractor. Also looked at Branson. Saw the Kubota and trying to save some money with a less known brand.

Your comments / thoughts will be appreciated.

:welcome: to TBN.
What type transmission...HST gear shift?
About how many horse power think you'll need?
What attachments you may purchase?
Land slopes or wet or flat?
There some good pvt. sales now again, check out tractorhouse.com for some ideas.

I have 10 acres and it is mostly flat. Do have a creek in front that has water during rainy season. I want the HST because my wife wants that since it is like the riding lawn mower we have. I would like to sell the riding lawn mower and have one thing I can put into my garage. Thinking 24 to 30 HP would be enough. We have 10 acres with mostly oaks and other hardwood trees. Clearing out some of the small stuff and trying to make it more "park" like so it is easy to walk around (and watch the deer).

Would like to have a backhoe since I would like to maintain about 300 ft of shallow ditch along my driveway and also do some drainage improvements around the house. Also we burn the wood from fallen trees so digging a pit and then being able to cover up the burnt stuff would be nice. May want to try and use a backhoe to remove some stumps.

No farming and the area around the house has grass (about 1 acre now but trying to expand this some). For implements a FEL, backhoe, maybe a mid mount mower or something to pull behind a tractor). A box blade or 6 point blade (think that is what it is called) to do some work on driveway (600 ft long). If I had a bush hog and a trailer I may do church lot (use to but tore up my riding lawn mower about every time I cut it).

I would be interested in used equipment to try and save money but my wife is afraid we will buy something that will break and spend more on repairs. Kubota seems very good but expensive. Heard Kioti is like Kubota but less and the Yanmar distribution center is in Adairsville GA about 60 miles from here and so is the Branson distribution in Rome GA.

I have no personal experience with Branson tractors, but from ALL that I read here on TBN, Branson would get the first and most serious look from me.

For what you want to do the LS you mentioned will do nicely - 24HP model. Also you should look at Mahindra Max 28, and also RK Tractors 24HP, and then Kubota BX25D - I don't know anything about the Branson if they have a BH etc. Most of these machines will lift about 800 Lbs and dig 6.5'.

These have what I call an "integrated backhoe" to the frame with the swivel (single seat) and most of these can support a Mid Mount Mower with the BH on - but if you are logging or doing woods work I would not have the mower deck on.

Other things you will want to get - BH Thumb - mechanical, and seriously look at a grapple for your brush work, and that means a QA bucket on the loader, then a mower deck is $2K and a grapple is about the same $ - if you cant get a grapple now, at least get a QA bucket setup so you can add that later. (you can use the BH and thumb as a grapple to pick and carry wood/branches).

As far as pricing I have seen the LS with a BH for around 17K and would imagine the others will be similar, and Kubota a bit higher. If you like the Kubota - there are quite a few for sale with low hours 60-150 hours usually homeowners wanting to trade up or moving etc. and you can find these for $13-16K lightly used.

Welcome to TBN! I have had the LS MT125TLB, and now have an LS XG3025 (MT225e) TLB. The MT225 is about $4k more, but would probably be the last tractor you would have to buy! I am very impressed with the LS tractors. Never had a problem. The LS is about $6-8k less than a comparable Kubota. The KIOTI Tractors are another great choice!

Let us know what you end up with. If you have more specific questions about a certain brand, do not hesitate to post in those threads, lots of great owners will share their thoughts without hesitation!
