Headlight bulbs

FYI - Anyone using the LED or halogen replacement bulbs that replace the 21V-84314-00-XX ???

This is a total drop in LED replacement

When I went to NAPA, they only had 2 left of the Yamaha regular bulb. AND they had them in the store for more than 8 years! Not a big seller.

Looking at that link, there are about 20 bulbs listed that this LED would replace.

The LED type is the 6000K (kelvin cool white). It would be just fine on low bean, but blind anyone on high beam.

Also, the company is US based in CA, NOT some Alibaba, got to buy a pallet load to get the savings.

I must say, Yanmar sure used some ODD BALL bulb for their tractors. :duh:

I am not sure what bulbs my 2 tractors take, but I have been considering changing them to LED at some point. I think there was a thread on the bulbs a few years ago I will see if I can find it.

There are a few threads about replacing the entire headlamp assembly with LED units, but none touched on just the bulb swapping to LED. I found this thread and one other and replied with the LED bulb info.

Attached is a bulb chart I had found dealing with Asian bulbs and off-road an on-road applications. There are variances of the P15D-1 bulbs. For the Yanmar applications, it's the 35W/25W with the T19mm base. Oddly, there are other P15D-1 bulbs with wattage's of 15W/15W. Hardly ideal for headlamp use. Then there is the 60W/60W, but the base is HUGE.

So finding an LED bulb by itself for this odd size for the tractors is a rare thing. These were not found 2 years back when I had diligently looked hard for them.

Should anyone else need to find bulbs, here is a wealth of info for the P15D-1 types.

These are brighter than my original link by 2X or 1,000 lumens.

Use the link above, find the brand and then search domestically if they are available.

Asia is loaded with scooters and motorbikes. Thus, the P15D-1 isn't that rare over there. It sure is here. The -25 or the -30 is the outer diameter of the bulb glass. -25 or less fits in our original headlamp housings.

I need to look into that. I wanted LEDs for mine as I mow at night sometimes. Thanks

I decided to ditch the weak OEM incandescent bulbs on my 1401D when one burned out and I could quickly find a replacement.

I bought a couple of 8 LED 12V lights off eBay - I think they were under $20 each.

I took a piece of 1" aluminum angle and made a bracket and drilled holes that matched the existing upper grill mounting holes. This brought the lights into near perfect position with the existing headlight openings.

I used the existing connector, clipped off the ends near the sockets and wired in the 2 lights. They are wired with just one ON position which turns on both lights. I considered wiring for the first pull (low beam) just turning on one light and the second pull (high beam) turning on both lights.

I move snow with the tractor and these lights work awesome in the darkness - so much so that I may rewire to the high/low beam.

They only draw something like 3 amps each.

Note that the photo of the mounting is with the hood open so it's upside down.

The whole job took less than an hour mostly time spent lining things up.

P.S. I couldn't afford official suitcase weights so I resorted to a wheel weight from a Cub LoBoy!

Maybe 3 Watts. :dance1:

Very nice. Better than the 25W/35W ATV bulbs.

Actually it's correct with the camera angle. It's an inside shot.

Hey, you got a horn in there unwired. That's the very first mod I did was hooking that thing up.

Looks like wires connected to both terminals on the horn and running into the loom.

They put some hefty heat sinks on those lights, which is a big plus. The LED elements last just about forever, dissipating heat from the transformer will help extend its life as well.

Ah, I believe you are right. I was mistaken by the big white connector with no hookup when looking at the image in the small scale size previously. Thanks!
