0% is the biggest come-on in the marketing world and is surprising how many people fall for it whether it's a tractor, car or furniture. People think, "well, I'll just use their money to buy what I want"and leave mine in the bank". All the while they are forgetting that whatever finance charges they think they're not paying, is already built into the pricing of what they're buying.
Some stores used to give you an option of 0% or low financing and reduce the pricing. What has made it worse is that many are not doing that anymore because it showcased that indeed you were paying something more for 0% and that "0" is not really free". So now that $32,000 tractor that has no business being that high of msrp but has "take it or leave it 0%," has about 3 or 4 grand "built in" to cover the finance charges that they make believe you're not paying.
It has shown to be a very effective marketing tool.
