New electric meters

I had to remove my tinfoil hat to type this but I suspect smart meters are part of the infrastructure to allow variable rate pricing at some point. So electric is cheap after business hours, for example, and very expensive when it's 95F.

Yes, I believe you are correct.
No tin foil hat, that's just capitalism and the market.
Presently the "average" rate you are charged is disconnected from the real (-time) market; and supply and demand forces.

Why its, its, its SOCIALISM!

That is, you may use all your power at night or off peak hours when the utility can by it for (say) 7 cents a kw-hr; yet your neighbor burns all their electricity during peak hours when the utility has to buy it for 18 cents a kw-hr. Yet the utility charges you both 15 cents a kw-hr.

You are paying for your neighbor's power.

Ask any salmon!
i dont eat salmon. hate fish in general. do love my cheap electricity though. Oh, and by the way, our Idaho lakes are chucked full of salmon. so they get past the dams apparently.

Salmon are doing fine and I also enjoy our electric rates, along with the food that is grown with water that comes from the irrigation project getting water from Grand Coulee dam. I also enjoy it when we don't have massive flooding that occurred prior to the dams. Did I mention the recreation on the lakes behind the dams? Lots of great boating, fishing, skiing, etc.

Yes, smart meters are here, yes, they can cause issues, yes, we will start to get billed for peak time usage sometime down the road.. Also note, you can monitor your electric usage online when you have a smart meter.. I haven't done it myself so don't know details.

Ours only gives daily usage, not real time monitoring. There are some great products that use CT’s and smart phones to monitor real time. I’m not that into knowing my use to fool with it.

Anyone have the new digital RF electrical meters installed at home. The power company swapped mine out last month. The house meter didn't change much but my shop bill went from normal $50-60 per month to $110. OF course they claimed it was accurate and nothing could be done. They did say they would send someone out to check it. I think they billed me the normal rate (minimum charge per month usually) but billed me for both meters, the one they removed and the one they installed. The took the old meter so no way to tell what the reading was when they pulled it. They didn't notify us of the intent to switch, just pulled them and replaced them. On the phone call, they claim to have notified us that we had a choice to keep the old meters but we didn't receive any such notice.

Why I kept the machine and fab shop on the house meter. One bill, all residential and they don't have a clue. If I need added juice for something, I fire up the diesel standby gen set and use that.

I think the 'smart meters are smart for them (utility) and dumb for us (consumer).

It痴 a big a concern. Now that 5G is rolling out, we will see the effects it has on people痴 health.

5G travels much further than 4G, the speeds will be truly awesome at up to 100 gigs per second. But since 5G reaches much further the danger zone around towers gets much further out as well.

I will be following it closely. 5G isn稚 near my area yet. It痴 not something I知 really looking forward to getting.

I'll never see 5G. I only get 3G at my house.
