I would bet health experts have a strong majority agreement that while jogging & cycling accidents may happen, the health risks outweigh the cost of injuries in both cost of insurance claims and increased longevity from the benefits of exercise.

Cycling and jogging are far more beneficial to society than smoking.
Even comparing the downsides of the two is pretty ridiculous.

"Experts estimate that between 2009 and 2012, the annual societal costs attributable to smoking in the United States were between $289 and $332.5 billion. This includes $132.5 to $175.9 billion for direct medical care of adults and $151 billion for lost productivity due to premature deaths."

I'm afraid Mike's point was missed as well as mine. That's okay. We are used to it. :D

Oh I hate it when posters go back and add to their original post after others have responded to it...…

As I said to Step, I'm in total agreement.

Once again,,,,, who's going to determine what bad habit is not supported???

Being a farmer, who have several daily habits that would absolutely offend city folk and they'd want to put those things on their list. :)

Simple...an arbiter...the criteria will be what preferences create the biggest burdens on the healthcare industry (including the cost of insurance)...in other words...mental weakness is going to be costly in the future...

Yep, I totally agree and understand what is being said.

So,,,,, how about texting or talking on the phone while driving???? Will that be on the list????

Oh I totally understand what you are saying. If I keep naming bad habits I'll hit on one that you do that contributes to a higher cost of some form for the rest of us. No need to go there.

I'm just wondering who is going to create the list of those habits that get no society monetary support?

I'm not really picking on any one bad habit; I'm stating there are two that cost all of us Billions, unnecessarily ....

Yep. I agree. And the list would grow like a bush fire.

There was a poll started 5 days ago on a shooting site I frequent. 60% responded that this virus is "no big deal". Some there are still calling it media hype and stuff I cannot report here due to our constraints on political comments.

There are a lot of stupid people out there. They will be casualities of the first wave when it peaks and the medical resources are swamped.

Anyone with half a brain knows this is coming. I am pretty sure I will get infected but trying to be at the tail end when my chances of surviving may be better.
