I am somewhat aware of the Japanese efforts but I am not aware they actually deployed any bio weapons against us... to my point. I think there were some attacks on China.

All the weapons that I know of, including the plague were deployed against Chinese. Of course China was our ally then. They did design and have a plan for deploying bio weapons against the west coast, but it was never done.

Prepping is not as expensive as most think. IMHO, people who do not prep are fools who deserve the consequences of their choices.

Preppers are not the idiots rushing to Costco to get shopping carts full of TP. We are not descending on gun stores. We are prepared

Preppers are not the nuts and flakes you see on TV.

If everyone had a 2 month supply of stuff, there would be far less panic. So yes, people need to stop buying bling and be responsible. I know poor people with months of food put away. I know people making $80k with a week of food.
I don't fully understand the term "Prepping". I tend to wait for a sale then buy in quantity if the item has a long shelf life. I don't like grocery shopping and I always like being prepared for the unexpected.
BUT if you are going out for your normal 2 month grocery run you could be caught short.
Our basement had a nice wall of shallow shelves. I filled them with canned vegetables etc. about 2 years ago, probably about 20 cases all told. My wife took over grocery buying and let the stock dwindle a bit, down to about 10 cases. We are gradually stocking back up.

The temperature checks won't really work for a viral disease that is infectious for a few days before a patient even has symptoms. Besides, those temperature guns are horribly inaccurate. It's just for show.
Accuracy can be accounted for, precision is better.
I've about 8 thermometers for measuring air temps. I had one that was a (and still is if I could find it) mercury one that had been certified at the National Bureau of Standards for a scientific project at work. (But I discovered at sea level under STP water freezes at 32 degrees F. ) Two of the 8 are the HF Infrared $14 specials. One always reads 2 degrees high, the other always reads about 1 degree low, and I check them about every 6 months against an ice bath.
So they are precise and I believe I can trust the readings of my thermometers when I add or substract for precision.
Gloves and masks can be useful. It would make more sense to just minimally staff the stores and do restocking at night when the store can be closed. That would keep the employees more isolated. <snip>
I thought the Walmarts, Home Depots, Lowes etc. had been doing that for years.
That's a dumb headline. There will be an economic and future impact of the virus on a society no matter what approach they take or how good/bad their results. There is no way to escape an impact.

It sure feels that way... stick to your clan and then only those under your roof... be suspect of strangers... greet those knows from afar...

Everyday life such as weddings, funerals, youth organizations, sporting events, concerts, church, work, etc.. standing in line at the DMV, City Council, Flying, Carpool Lanes, Public Transportation, etc... may be profoundly impacted.

That's not prepping. That's life in the country.

In the city, I knew people who barely kept anything on a shelf. They went to a grocery store more than once a day in some cases to get food for the next meal.

My opinion is that China did not shut down Wuhan because they had a flu outbreak. They must have believed it was a biological weapon that got out and it scared the crap out of them. It surprises me that we cannot confirm if is was a natural or engineered virus...or maybe that information is being suppressed.
Well that would certainly explain why they didn't want to have any news about it leak initially (Nov to mid Dec), then why they put on such a big public effort to work on it and now why their publicly reported numbers now look so low.

I knew very rich people who don't have a working flashlight in the house, and some in particular that demand that the systems in place serve them no matter what.

My lady friend had a contractor cordon off the playground in one of the condos she manages and immediately the residents complain!

Cuppla years back when the California drought was all the news, there was a story of an affluent community who was violating watering bans because they felt they should be able to buy all the water they could afford. Nothing could make them understand that there just wasn't enough water to go around.

I'm leaning that way too. I also believe our government knows more than we do on the subject when it comes to its origins.

There have been stories saying both theories have been 'proven'. One side says there has been no DNA of any kind found in samples 'proving' that it was manufactured. Other stories say essentially the opposite, that they have 'proof' it definitely was not man made.

I read....
that 1/2 of the people in the USA "eat out". That is, 50% of meals are from restaurants.
The restaurants are closed, those meals must now be purchase food from the grocery. Cisco business dropped to zero, the local grocery clients just doubled.
no wonder there is no Toilet paper, a family needs to eat!
