Three things that I read before the GM story that caught my attention.

Pompeo: Americans abroad should try to get home '''immediately''' | Fox News

"Secretary of State Mike Pompeo on Tuesday urged Americans living abroad to return home as soon as possible, or they may lose the ability to do so.

“Americans who wish to return home from abroad should do so immediately and make arrangements to accomplish that,” Pompeo said at a news briefing.

"We do not know how long the commercial flights in your countries may continue to operate," Pompeo continued, as many airlines have already slashed most of their international service.

"We can't guarantee the U.S. government's ability to arrange charter flights indefinitely where commercial options no longer exist,” he added.

Pompeo urged Americans abroad to register with their local embassy or do so online via STEP, the State Department's Smart Traveler Enrollment Program, and “work your way back here.” "

On defense issues the Navy carrier Captain should be admonished for calling out his ships status to the media.
DoD already stopped sending numbers a few weeks ago.
I would not be concerned with production at GM. The next shooting war will be over rather quickly with the old adage "you go to war with what you have...not with what you want".

I agree about the Captain but things like that happens when one is have an panic attack.

This could be a risk factor behind the GM story.

I am not concerned with production at GM because they sound like they have good management. You may be right about the next shooting war. Do you think the train load of tanks below may be going to be sold as scrap?

I kind of like Eastmans Pragmatic approach. To each his own. I wish I had a nickle for every old fart that spoke of still doing this, restoring that, whatever. I guess if dellusions keep you going, that has value too.

I am old enough but wise enough to realize and accept that most of my long list of projects will never get done.

If the mask requirement is initiated that will be something else you cannot find like toilet paper and paper towels are today.

Local sources of N-95 masks dried up a couple of weeks ago. Now i don't think stores are being allocated any. The local paper said local women were sewing cloth masks.

Chris

Our 20 N-95's came today that I ordered from the link posted here a few days ago. They look fine. They are from the Hubei Providence, China. :)

Hopefully they have been in a warehouse in the USA for the last 5 years. They are setting out in the sun currently.

Unfortunately this sort of data is really biased by the size of the geographical area. DC looks great because there's less than 70 sq miles in that area. If you go to the supermarket in Wyoming you probably travel fifty times as far as a DC resident does. DC gets a high rating but that doesn't necessarily correlate with good social distancing if people are walking to friend's houses etc. The ranchers in Wyoming look bad even if they just drive to town to get food.
And the rancher probably goes rarely and only gets near a few people. I'm trying to make a Walmart grocery run Thursday, pickup in the parking lot thing. First time I'll be within 6 feet of anyone besides the UPS & Fedex delivery /edit - in two weeks. But it's a 50-60 mile drive. `
Have you noticed how many guys here haven't grasped the concept of hunkering down at home? Kind of scary given that a lot of us are 60 plus and some have health issues. Trips to walmart and the farm store and 4 grocery stores and the gas station. To me it looks like every trip from home is another chance to be exposed. I guess that is OK if you have seen enough of this earth and you are right with God.

Chris
Or Ok if you need critical supplies that can't be gotten at one store. And then you can hunker down for months.

I think we are coming to a time when we will all be wearing masks in public for a few months at least (when the supply catches up with demand).. The next step in slowing the spread is to reduce the transmission by folks that don't know they have it..
MOP suits anyone?

But keeping all the various projects alive keeps us alive.

Changes in local stores.

A big chain liquor store no longer takes walk ins. Have to call in your order ahead of time, then pick it up later in the day. Only one person at a time allowed in, and only to pay.

A chain grocery no longer allows reusable bags, they use their paper bags. Also just one person allowed in at a time so that no lines form at the registers.

Both stores have tape marking six foot intervals for those waiting outside.

Africans rush for chloroquine as virus tsunami looms

"Around half of infected people in Senegal are already being prescribed hydroxychloroquine, Moussa Seydi, a professor at Dakar's Fann Hospital, told AFP last Thursday.

Every patient who was recommended the drug accepted it, "with no exceptions," he said."

I have.

They'll have a tough time getting that through the courts.

I do not think a military background is required to understand that something internally and or externally is going on that may not being put on the even news just yet.

Greed. GM wants the Gub'mint money.

HUD's Carson: New Coronavirus Treatments Could Provide Quick Results

"Housing and Urban Development Secretary Ben Carson said Tuesday the Trump administration and the coronavirus task force are together working every day to stop the pandemic. He is confident they are making good progress to that end, including the development of medication to treat the virus that could change the trajectory of its spread in the coming weeks."
