If those so worried about oil on roadways...you should lead by example and not drive on any asphalt based road. After all, emulsified oil keeps the aggregate together.

So us how your concerns translate into action.

Einstein thinks asphalt is mixed with used motor oil.
Tells you all you need to know....

I think there was a distinction made on emulsification. Einstein would of made sure the argument was thought through and vetted.

Emulsifcation really only serves to aid in mixing and application of asphalt. Eventually the oil settles out. I'm trying to figure out why some are incessant on not drawing a distinction between all the asphalt roadways and a land owner putting his last oil change on a dusty road. If one is bad, then the other should he as well, or did I miss something?

I built a sprayer that goes in the back of my Kubota RTV. Have a friend that gives me all of his used vegetable oil from his 6 restaurants .....I strain it and lay it down on the road.....works great.

The OP said he wanted "to spray used oil on my roads", so maybe he was talking about vegetable oil like you did.

I am sure that is what he meant. The rest of the thread is a small misunderstanding.

I think he accomplished what he hoped to, with his one post in ten years as a member. It's easy to see how fast an argument starts here, with hot topics like oil or the environment which both fringe political tones. Combine the two into one question, and BOOM.

You do realize that EVERYONE that lived on or near roads that were coated with oil to keep dust down are either DEAD or DYING don't you?

Your statement is a bit foolish. In the mid '80's many gravel roads were oiled with drained motor oil of all kinds. At that time there was no consideration of doing damage to anyone or anything. It was solving a problem with something that was no longer used for anything else. So it was a win/win. No one was condemned or criticized for using it, even the government didn't care.

That was 40 years ago, so yes some of those folks are dead and gone, some still alive. Those that died didn't die from the use of drained oil on gravel roads. I know you'll cry out for some evidence, but then you're probably not 40 yet, so you don't know how things were then.:D My neighbor who helped me lived to 84.

Well, I’m still here. I worked in the oil fields in the early 70s. In some cases there was oily water spread on roads from a treater. For the most part, we just put up with the dust.

Most of the people I worked with are still here as well. Your statement is asinine.

While asinine, at 70+ years old I can guarantee it is also TRUE.
If that is because of or in spite of I have no idea.
It didn't seem to affect the many millions of people that have survived it so far.

Well, I'm here. I just got my road re-oiled last fall. I'm still here and kicking. I even let my kids play on it. No horns yet and they seem otherwise healthy.

People seem to have forgotten just how many items a cracked hydrocarbon molecule are in everyday items. Water bottles are made with oil, which people drink out of. Are those good or bad?

I read this as humor. No mention of correlation between oil and death - each and every one of us is marching toward our passing, getting one day closer every day.
