I see the Captain of the carrier Roosevelt has been relieved of command.

They had no choice IMHO. I have read this virus can affect a persons mental abilities...that may be the case here...but no idea.

The news reported that the Captain either leaked the letter, or did not control who got copies of it and was leaked by someone else.

I had to go to the grocery store yesterday. About half of the employees were wearing homemade masks over their nose and mouth. There are still no reported cases within 100 miles of me, but I believe that it will be the last time I go to the store for a while. The only thing that I'm lacking is bread... I tried to pick up flour but nobody had any of that, either.

The only time that I've ever worn a mask was when I was spreading coated grass seed and the lime was raising cain with my breathing; as hot as that thing was, I don't envy anybody who has to wear one. I eventually switched to a canister style painter's mask which allowed air exchange.

This article points out a serious flaw in the uncontrolled study from Marseille: that group studied patients who were mostly afebrile or in other terms not sick. No big surprise then that many cleared the virus on their own. Yet again a reminder that a control group is critical to almost any study. The Marseille group has the reputation of being cowboys and it seems well deserved.

Groopman (a former colleague and trustworthy) also criticizes the Chinese study I wrote about this morning as being too small to give clear results. I haven’t seen the actual study but it certainly shows a trend towards effectiveness.

All's still quiet. The Premier has now closed down the thoroughbred/standardbred/greyhound (the dishlickers) racing meets. They were being held without crowd attendance but have now been wholly shut down for at least the next 4 weeks. A few new cases of the virus in Tassie, but no deaths here. Aus deaths have climbed to 28.

So far, only local Army Reservists have been called upon to assist in monitoring self-quarantined people... who are clustered in Launceston and Devonport/Burnie (in the North) and Hobart (in the South). I haven't been called up, yet. Other than that, people are in good spirits.

I saw on my morning news live video of the MS ZAANDAM coming alongside in Ft Lauderdale, Florida. Efforts to repatriate the healthy passengers to their various countries could take a further 24-48 hours.

It is not what he did...it is how he did it. Read the story.

BTW, it seems to me he would have reviewed the situation with the other top officers under his command and his medical officer. There was no imminent danger...mild cases reported. As to the leak, I see three sources....the Captain, one of his officers, or the fact it was sent via an insecure email.
