Neighbor dog on my property harassing wildlife

Last year we had a husky and a pit start to roam on our 18 acre property. Not hurting anything but just running around doing what dogs do. At first I would just holler at them but they would scram for a few hours then bounce back. The next step was to shoot half a dozen rounds towards them as a warning. That did the trick for the most part. If these couple dogs would have persisted another time or two I would have really taken care of the problem as I didn't trust their look.

I am hoping to figure out a diplomatic way to communicate that the problem needs to be solved. And there will not be any more warnings if it is not, since I would become the one solving it at that point. Again, I have other things in common with this neighbor. If I act heavy handed about this, it could create other difficulties which I don't want. I think the neighbor will be cooperative, and I am just trying to figure out the best approach.
Send him a picture off your trail camera. Or tape one to his door.

It sounds like the neighbor is at least trying to do the right thing. I'd approach him the way that you'd want to be approached if the situation was reversed.

The problem with shooting the dog, if you are the only one complaining, is your neighbor will think you shot the dog when the dog comes up missing. Had a friend that lost his dog that way and it caused a lot of bitterness.

Your neighbor needs to keep the dog in a fenced area....or try a radio fence.

In the meantime, call or text him when the dog is loose on your property asking him to come get his dog....make it a PITA for him.

That would be a subtle way to get the message across.

I have many trail camera pictures, and I got a good shot of him at the pond's edge after he came out of the water. I think I will make a page of photos and take them over for a discussion.

Thank you for all of the replies.

btw, the same trail cam has many pictures from a number of black bears, one and sometimes multiple coyotes, and a cougar. I was hoping nature would take care of this for me, but so far it hasn't.

I disagree. If the neighbor was trying to the right thing he would keep his dog up. I have real problem with people that let their dog run loose. I am a runner and get the privilege of dealing with the dogs of selfish and lazy people regularly while running on public run roads.

Maybe talk with neighbor and picture or two will be the cure,if not call to law enforcement.

 The dog is only being a dog. It's the neighbor that is the problem. Approach him with honesty and respect.
