It was sunny and a pretty nice day here today, so my buddy and me turned this,

and most of these,

into this,

It took 2-1/2 tanks through the Husky 562xp, and it ran strong! It even impressed my buddy who runs a Husky 268xp for his big saw. I think it's finally getting enough fuel through it so it's getting broken in and making full power. The more we run that saw, the better we like it.

Now, to get started splitting it all!

We need to stay in this decade on buying bar oil. I think 40 years ago used motor oil was better than todays used 5W30 used oil, but I'm getting to like used tractor trans oil, still have over 5 gal to use.

I saved my Kioti hydro oil when I changed it out to use in my saws. I also saved the gear oil from the front end and mixed it in with some hydro oil after running it thru a paint filter. I think I have 12 or 13 gallons saved from the hydro oil change. That is a lot of bar oil. I won't run dirty used motor oil. My Father in law used to do that all the time. He wiped out more chains and bars than I ever did back 30 - 40 years ago. I started buying bar and chain oil for him and he never went back to crap oil. As far as chains, I love the square tooth chisel chain for cutting. It is a lot harder to sharpen up if you hit something out in the woods. I carry a spare chain just in case.

I havent seen $5.00 bar oil in 30 years...............

Eight years ago I ran into a guy selling 21 gallons of Husqvarna bar and chain oil for $5.00 a gallon. My local saw shop was selling it for $10.00 a gallon. I jumped right on it and bought it all. Walmart used to have it for $8.00 a gallon 6 - 7 years ago.

Tractor Supply bar oil is regularly just over $6 per gallon and when it's on sale, it's 2 for $9.99. That's what I use, I tried used oil and didn't like the way it worked. The used oil goes into the wood stove now, a little at a time.

It's $8.49 at TS here.

I spent 10 years falling timber in production 6 days a week 60 to 10 hours a day before getting into a harvester.View attachment 651584

These are my jacks I use when doing this type of work one is a 45 ton the other is a Silvey tree saver back pack setup that値l lift 125 tons.

To the other cuts like a sizwheel and a Dutchman both aren稚 what I壇 call something you should try without some knowledge of how the holding wood works.View attachment 651591

Nice info on the jacks to drop a tree. I have never seen that done before. Out here on the East coast we do not have tall trees like you folks up on the NW.

Thats a nice little jack, it's all the jack I need for my trees but I mostly go with what direction tree wants, although around house's and power lines a jack would be nice to have.

He had an ad up on Craigslist for a couple cases of oil at $5.00 a gallon. When I got there he had 3 1/2 cases. That was a no-brainer for me. I did feel good and paid him his asking price.

I didn't do anything special, other than run nothing but "Husky fuel" in it for it's first several tanks. When I first got it, I also did as the manual said to do, and ran a few full throttle longer cuts so the carb would make it's first adjustments.

I never run it or any other saw, hard and then shut it right off, I always let them idle a bit to cool down some before being shut off. I also let them rev., NO lugging and I've had very good service out of the saws I've owned, at least out of the power plants.
