In hardwood square holds up fine, dirt it hates. When production cutting I don’t file anything everything is ground in the evening my thinking is I’m paid by the thousand board foot Scribner scale so we swap chains every so often. When sharpening square the biggest thing is the outside corner is lined up that’s your strength of the tooth, with the inner corner controlling how aggressive/blunt the cutter is.

I dont suppose you have a video or pictures on showing this square grind method? My guess is you first need a high quality chainsaw sharpener. On second thought I'll let you do the chainsaw work and I'll run the forwarder, I like buttons switches and nobs..............

Christmas Day 2004, I had to cut a 72 foot tall spruce which was only 71 feet from my house. I cut my notch, then after getting my back cut deep enough so that I knew it wouldn't be a problem I cut a slot for my hi-lift. I then finished my cut while alternatively jacking and when I was done the tree was laying next to my house, with the central leader on top of the flag I had set for a target.

You have Redwoods down in Liberty? That's good to know, I thought that I would need to head for the west coast to see one.

I will when I plant some, should be ready to cut in 500 years..........
Disclaimers are only needed when cutting a tree on video and that is just asking for Murphy to show up. High Lift Jack, if thats what I'm thinking of your just asking for Murphy's help, think I'd put more trust in my tractor........

If I’m hand falling the forwarder is idle for everything but cleaning up pulp that harvester I run everyday will cut up to 32” and process it.


These are both Silvey made grinder the orange one is a 510 the silver is the square Pro sharp, the big difference with a square is you bring the tooth to wheel vs a round that you take the wheel to the tooth. Before having the pro sharp we had a swing arm which worked but wasn’t near as accurate every time but they are much cheaper as well.

I did another 2 shortbed loads of the white oak today, the pieces that were laying on the ground are quite stringy, the pieces that were up on them are still stringy, but not as tough to get apart. I typically split it when it's standing dead, but these were just taken down a couple of weeks ago. Free wood is free wood, and as my old man always says, "it all burns."

Those are from our older harvester that ran 11H 3/4” chain we no longer have a use for unfortunately.

Well since all the firewood cleaning agent is now gone and replaced with mud, firewood gets to dirty, but when I get my car pressure washer building built to wash my firewood I'll keep cutting although it is getting close to bug season and I differently wont cut wood then. I still remember back in the day chainsaw oil was also used on helmets in spring time............

Ah - I see your point. I have a one track mind and I've been splitting, not in the muddy woods cutting so I was thinking along the lines of blocking and spitting.

Why do you need a car wash building. Some guys just stand back and use a fire hose

I have never seen chainsaw sharpeners like those, they look high end.

This cedar was done with a brand new 562 running a 32 theyæ±*e a very capable little saw that run very smooth and are hot.
