I really doubt you want a truck that old. You’ll spend more time working on it than with it. And it’s probably got vacuum over hydraulic drum brakes that are junk and probably a 292 i6 gas burner.

It might even have the old wedge brakes.

I found the same thing with my 545... almost identical to your 550 except that mine wasn't an XP. You couldn't walk up a softwood tree limbing it without the saw dying at least once... to restart I had to set the brake, hold the throttle open and drop start it several times.

The new Husqvarna's are no better.

I got a 562 XP now that is absolutely junk. I call it my "Forever Crank" because it is just that...it also has no power, and rattles itself to death. In talking with other loggers, I have not found any others that like it either.

The dealer told me it was a "disposable saw" when I bought it, and that is about what it is. Like he said, buy it for $700, run it a year, trade it in for $300, and rinse and repeat."

I am hoping to get my hands on a 500 Stihl. That will be the first fully fuel injected chainsaw.

Do you know what years the 262xp came out? My first 550xp sure did start hard, never knew when or if it was going to flood out, choke one pull or 4 pulls, my new 550xp one or two pulls starts right up and haven't flooded it out yet.

The 262XP came out in 1990. It was discontinued in 1996. t had 4.8HP and was lighter than the Husky 55 which I believe had 3.7HP. I had 2 saw shops tell me that they though the 262XP was the best saw that Husqvarna ever made. I asked why they thought this. Both dealers told me that the saw never broke down. I had a 33 inch bar on mine using skip tooth chain and that saw ripped thru wood. I also used it to make (13) 24 foot long roof rafters for my 36' x 60' barn. For ripping logs I used a flat filed square tooth chain. This chain would rip right down the length of a log like butter. I probably should have kept that saw just because of the light weight of it. The 2nd Gen 346XP was a much better saw than the 1st Gen 550XP. I knew a tree company guy that wanted any 2nd Gen 346XP that he could get his hands on. He used them for up in the tree work. He had bought a new 550XP when they first came out. He said he replaced it 2X under warranty because he couldn't keep them running or start them while up in a tree without killing himself. So he went back to the 346XP's buying them up used. I sold him a used 346XP that I had bought to fix up.

For some reason my 372xp doesn稚 start good when it痴 close to out of gas. It starts fine when it痴 full. And the problem doesn稚 exist when it痴 hot.

I have never had any issues with my 372XP starting. Although, when I start it up it is always full of gas and I rarely put it down until it is empty.

Nice truck, 1960? I had one in a 250 version that I bought for clearing my house lot in 1973 . It got beaten, abused and used up in the 5 years that I had it. I even shortened the center of the frame by a foot and a half to use in the woods as a tractor. I replaced the Ford F250 with a 1952 Ford 8N in 1978.

That is sad to hear about the 562XP. I was hoping that it might be a nice super new version of the old 262XP. Shame on you Husqvarna.

I’ve had a 562 that’s never given a problem even when I was running it everyday. Now it gets started here or there and lives in a shovel not a lick of issues.

One thing that can cause you a lot of issues with them is not getting them set up right from the first cut. When you go to set it up grab the longest bar you have if longer then 32 start at 32 then find something well over the length of the to bury the bar into and go full throttle with no idle.

It's sad to hear about his, but my 562xp runs great, has really good power and most others LOVE them too.

That is even better to hear. The day may come when I need to downsize a little and I'm sure that saw is lighter than my 372XP.
