Thanks. Real upgrade from my first one, a 15" Grizzly.....light weight thing walked all over the floor. Red machine to the left is a Williams/Hussy 6" planer (never used that feature) molder that does an amazing job of making moldings.

Current planer is a 20" Grizzly with the spiral insert tooth head....wow...is that thing quiet compared to a straight knife head. Been using it several years now and have yet to rotate the carbide teeth (can rotate them 4 times)....still cutting like new. It has a 5hp main motor for the head and a 2hp feed motor for the wood.

I am a carpenter / builder by trade and am planning a similar workshop in the next few years. I also would love to do a small sawmill as I have about 120 acres of very nice woods. Love that shaper / planer. They are a must have.

The theme of these post seem to be like, 'I had a life before the virus and it continues after the virus appeared'.
....

It saddens me with so many needs world wide it seems educated men can only bicker and act like they all knowing when man is not in control of the virus but the other way around.

With that said a few weeks ago I realized most doctors in the medical community were just guessing because that was about all they could do since there was not proven protocol to handle a new unknown virus.

Having relearned last summer that the animals that had never been to school could figure out which end was up really is helping me to think more like an animal and try to side step the "emotionalism" of educated men every where we look today.

Since the kids are 22 and moving forward with life I expect that impacts my thinking about their future more than my future. While I am concerned about events I am not concerned about them because I have pushed them hard to think for themselves and I know they are good to go.

The world is operating under FEAR today. For the most part I see FEAR as standing for False Evidence Appearing Real. The only way I know for the world to get past FEAR is to get back out living life and learning our way forward in a new reality that men do not know it all or are in control of it all.

So true!
Your line: "It saddens me with so many needs world wide it seems educated men can only bicker and act like they all knowing when man is not in control of the virus but the other way around." - This is the theme I see too. Now weeks into it, I see the conspiracy theorists have had time to imagine scenarios where this whole virus, shutdown and reactions is a big evil plot being controlled by (take your pick) some foreign gov't, domestic political enemies, the deep state, Bill Gates, tyrants, etc..etc.. (the list is long, the motives are many).

It makes me realize there's something about the human condition that makes us want/desire (create?) some all powerful, often hidden, omnipresent controlling entity....that has a plan (motive). It's almost a religious impulse. (..or the definition of religion.)

I think it's subconsciously a comfort for many to think someone has planned all this. Even if their motives are evil, at least somebody is in control.
Yeah right! Sorry, nature doesn't work that way. The Beach Boys song "Wouldn't it be Nice" has been my theme when I hear this stuff.`
But wouldn't it be (almost) nice and comforting to know it is being controlled instead of realizing how cold nature is. It doesn't give a crap. Intelligence is not the primary force in nature.

Thank you. I used it for my business for many years, so I could justify the expense. Now it's mine to piddle in.

None in my family who larger farms employee immigrants. Some years ago, my bro-law had a bunch of south Africans employed but that only lasted for a couple of years.

Then everyone in my family couldn't work on their farms. With the exception of native Americans, we are all immigrants or children of immigrants, etc... I think you mean migrants.

Pretty much every large fruit and vegetable farm in Michigan employs seasonal workers, known as migrant farm workers. For that matter, pretty much ALL fruit and vegetables that are grown in the U.S. in EVERY store in the U.S. would not be possible without migrant farm workers.

WAY OT.....

I've got a bunch of cousins that do custom combining from Arizona to Alberta

Are they immigrants or migrants?

They were all born in South Dakota.

More to the topic, some technical aspects to consider

Growing up on the vegetable farm in the 1950’s we relied on immigrants for the work force. They were new Canadians recently “immigrated” from various countries.

They had permanent residences and employment here and definitely were not migrant. I’ve long lost track of the many families that got their first jobs on our farms and went on to become successes in their own right.

When my father died in 1983 the funeral home was overwhelmed with a variety of different nationalities. It was quite the sight.

There will be many on several fronts but it will take a while...hindsight is 20-20 or better...

I'm starting to look like Einstein myself. No haircuts for a couple of months and it is whiter. If it wasn't for beard, I would be dead ringer. Pics for sale.

All of the fast food joints are open here for drive thu, just not dine in. We have been going for fast food just a much as before. And have been to the "carry out" of one sit down type restaurante. Wife had a hankering for steak and all the trimmings...
For me and wife, unfortunately more drive throughs than ever... but we are also better eating at home than ever too. Not as many other activities going on. I am spending way more time in my shop!

Getting a lot of projects caught up at home ! Spent the last couple days building boxes to expand my honey bees.

Me too, Andy. I'm a Powermatic fan too. The spiral heads on my planer and jointer are a dream compared to my old blades. Gonna make retirement with my tools so much more pleasurable. Getting a head start on xmas gifts this year.
