After 3 inches of rain fell in the last two days, we are back to sunny and warm!

I'm going to split wood tomorrow, but I only have one box left to fill, so I drug out my old chit spreader that I used all the time, back when we grew veggies for sale,

Now that I no longer need the spreader for "that" purpose, I torched the beaters out of it, and will now use it for firewood! So I pulled the spreader over to a garden spot, and let all the leaves and sticks that have collected in it, empty out,

Leaving that "drag chain" in, means that when I'm ready to use the dried firewood, the spreader will self unload, right by the window to my basement!

Awesome Idea. i've been looking for an old spreader to use for either your idea, or a live log deck to feed my firewood processor! but i don't live close enough to farm country to find one cheap enough to chop apart :(

You have central AC or window AC? Today I think the way it looks now the wood stove is going to take 5.

Central air!!! Just like central heat.. need em both! Heck, one of my outbuildings even has heat and air!

Wellllllll it must be nice having a thermostat with two legs two arms and works by snapping the fingers............
Nope, all it takes is the right splitter and start splitting,

standard.jpg

Once it starts piling up, you turn on the drag chain and move the load back,

standard.jpg

and keep splitting until you have the spreader loaded!

BTW, I filled my last half cord box, before I moved the spreader into place!

NOW, it's off to the sawmill I go, for tomorrows adventure...

I have a much newer, much bigger spreader in the wings, to either make a live deck out of, or another firewood hauler. Here it is,

Why do you guys always start at the top when limbing and bucking?

I'm the only one in the whole world that does that. As I go towards the but end the limbs fall behind me instead of limbs falling in front of me then have cut a limb move a limb........ Really helps out on a bushy tree like hemlock, less handling of limbs.

Well that sure is a bushy tree, so how'd you reach those higher limbs? Hope you wasn't on a ladder.
