wondering after prying for a half hr, if there is a way to tie a knot or keep a knot from tightening up so bad you cant get apart when you are lifting something,, We are using 2"straps..

Have you tried a bowline?

Put a piece of 1" PVC conduit in the center of the knot. It won't crush and will slide out reasonably easily. Then the knot will loosen up somewhat easy.

The running bowline has the anti-tighten quality of the bowline plus it will tighten up on whatever you tie it around.

Knotting straps is really a no-no and doing so significantly reduces the lifting capacity of the strap, as far as I know.

That being said, you might try half hitches like shown in the above image, or a variation such as a cow hitch.

This knot slips and becomes a choker though. Perhaps this would not work for your application.

They are usually pretty easy to take apart after use though...

If the strap won't allow using a bowline, try a "sheet bend" knot. The knot is used to tie large tow ropes together on ships and comes apart easily.

I did not notice the intent to tie knots in a strap. I've never done that, it is a real bad idea. Get a rope and use rope knots. Or use a strap and slings as they are meant to be used. Or a chain.
