Coyote too close for comfort

Thankfully that is what the Mrs. is worried about, which gives me the latitude to take care of the problem in just about any manner I see fit. Of course sitting on the patio smoking a cigar and waiting for him/her to show back up is a pleasurable option as well. Thankfully I stocked up on ammo too before all this COVID stuff came about.

That does sound pleasurable. However if he sees you (very likely) before you see him then he will likely vanish. Coyotes are very smart.

Get one of those squealing rabbit coyote calls and he will be in your lap

Some folks around here hunt coyotes with hounds and radio collars for sport. I do think they get a small bounty. Perhaps there are similar hunters near you that may be interested if offered a handle.

The only thing I would add to the Patio sitting is a cold beer to go with that cigar.

Not if he's planning on using the rifle. I like my beer and I like to shoot; but the gun is put away before opening the first cold one.

A couple of people have mentioned predator calls; anything which sounds like a wounded animal will work. There used to be a great magazine about trapping and predator calling, one month somebody wrote an article on recordings he'd tried with success. One of those recordings was of his infant crying...

Old farmer up the road told us a guaranteed method when we bought our place. Go get a stray cat from the local shelter, put a shock collar on it and chain it to a stake in a field. Works better than the store bought calls and it's much cheaper.

I'm guessing/hoping that's a joke. The old farmer would deserve to be brought up on charges.

If that coyote has ever been called in before, and shot at and missed, they learn all about "rabbit in distress" calls. That seems to be the first call every swingin' Joe tries on 'yotes.

Coyotes are opportunists, and also very curious by nature. Throw them a call they don't hear very often. I've had very good luck with a woodpecker call, especially in areas where guys have blown rabbit calls to kingdom come. They'll lay there and yawn while listening to a rabbit call, but start up that woodpecker call, and here they come.

You don't shoot the cat...

I didn't think that. To my understanding, the cat is purposely tortured with a shock collar, just to make it scream for as long as it takes to attract a coyote.

I'm no legal expert, but I believe that if something like that was reported, it would (and should) result in charges.
