UPdate: Still haven't heard anything from seller....further convincing me that it's a scammer. I might be heading north and go through Lexington, KY so decided to look there.... low & behold, the same "local" welder was posted in Lexington as well....same everything, price, pictures....you get the idea.

As it happens, my brother in law has "stuff".... so I emailed him other day about maybe helping me weld this broken bolt so it can be removed.

Spoke to him on phone yesterday.... "do I still need help"... "be happy to help"....

I asked him if it was 110V or 220. I can do either, just need to put parts together. I have 30-40 feet of 8-3 WG wire that I used to supply my remote panel in garage. My brother in law (who's an electrician) has hooked the wire up for single use before.... so I was just being curious what it needed.

His answer was neither.... it was diesel.

HUH???

It's not one of those portable welders.... it's on a trailer and has its own diesel engine.

Seems he has a "real" welder. Said he might try to come by sometime this week or upcoming weekend.

Even better yet.
No bill from a BIL.

A BIL with a welder on a trailer is also almost too good to be true. :drink:

I bet he knows how to use it! Be sure to offer him some of the $700 you didn't get scammed out of.

Expect any NIB or truly 'as new' item offered for ~half retail and still listed 24 hrs later to be a scam.

I've occasionally put legit items on Craigslist; you can post to different markets at the same time to increase exposure. Seeing it elsewhere (within a long drive) is not unreasonable.

Also, I've gotten so many inquiries the few times I posted that I just could not keep up with responding. It's kind of like, "contact first five serious inquiries and see who can pick it up on terms that are easiest to me", and then the next 40 inquiries are too much to handle. I do tend to post an update to the listing so people don't feel ignored, but it's rare to see others do that.

If this was legit, this looked like a great listing so I bet this guy got a TON of responses. Maybe he didn't know what he had, maybe it was stolen (too common) or maybe he just wanted it gone. In any case I guarantee he got overwhelmed and ignored everyone not on the top of the email queue. It happens. If you wanted to get to the top of the queue, you could always try replying with a subject line of "Willing to pay $900 for your welder" or something. That would get my attention. Another big one for me is, "I will pick this up anywhere and any time convenient to you and pay in cash."

This was a Craigslist purchase close to home. Briggs and Stratton powered DC welder. $50CDN with 50 feet of leads.

"Welding leads, $1CDN/ft. Welder included to cash buyer who will pick up entire 50 ft lot."

Terry, I don't know where you find this stuff but when I visit I'm bringing a trailer and getting a weekly rate at that motel you recommended. :)

Well if the welder does not work I'm pretty sure the copper in that is worth twice what you paid. Nice catch.

Let's start a bidding war over his leads, my bid is $65 US, my SIL will come get it, he lives out East of Vancouver just of the 1.

Ron

I can throw them on Harbor Air, Ron. They fly to Lake Union.
