Hi Folks,

Anyone have a lube that they swear by for chain drive on their tiller?

I have a Land Pride RGA 1258 tiller. Need to do a service (overdue) and the manual specs 80-90w for the gear box, simple enough and readily available, but the chain drive is needing Shell Gadus V220-00 "flowable grease", or Land Pride #821-045C...?. I've checked with my local auto parts place (Not a NAPA or Autozone...local guy that can usually get me ANYTHING) and Tractor supply..... They've never heard of it and the interweb doesn't offer any equals to them... Do I just have to suck it up and order online or go to my nearest Land Pride dealer (Hour away)?

Also curious if anyone has a go to for replacement teeth and drag shoes for Land Pride tillers... I figured on buying online, but want to keep it simple, so if anyone has a reliable supplier, I'd rather go through someone I can trust.

Thanks!

Mike

Good question. My new RTA1258 tiller calls for Shell Gadus oil (or equivalent) on the sticker on the tiller.

The manual calls for straight SAE 90 wt.

90wt gear lube is hard to find at tractor stores etc. my Mercury Outboard Dealer has it.

I would expect 80/90 wt would suffice.

Go to your local motorcycle store. They will have excellent types of chain lube. You are looking for a lube that will penetrate and the dry on the chain -like wax. Good brands of chain lube will do this.

oosik is right, motorcycle chain lube is good. Amsoil has a good spray that dries also.

Great flowable grease.. John Deere Corn Head grease. inexpensive and easy to get.
been a popular grease for brush cutter gear boxes.

This is an enclosed oil bath type chain. Your advise is good for open, exposed chain drives. 00 grease is not terribly hard to find. 00 grease is also sold as corn head grease. You may also find 0 grease at a NH or CaseIH dealer in a quart bottle labeled E P Grease. That will be close enough. The only reason Landpride does not specify 80W-90 or 85W-140 gear lube is the lower shaft bearings & seals will not keep the lube on the right side of the case.

Thanks all.

I don't think a spray on or typical "chain lube" would fit the bill.... it calls for a 32oz bottle, so I assume it keeps the chain submerged in it as it spins... I'll try to find the John Deere Corn head grease, or the New Holland dealer for the 00 E P grease. I was hoping that somebody would say "Hey dummie! that's just xxxx lube, under a different name" lol. If I can't find one of those, I'll ante up and get the Shell product and buy enough to do it a couple times.

Any thoughts on a source for teeth and skid shoes?

Thanks!

Mike

Perhaps I looked at the wrong manual, but to me it appears that both the gearbox and gear case take 80-90w gear oil. No chain, enclosed or not.
