Where do you guys buy hardware.

It's amazing how scarce some items are getting. Inventory levels have been shrinking for years as producers strive to become more efficient, but that all falls apart when anything goes wrong. Just In Time becomes Out Of Stock quickly.
It makes sense that Chinese goods are in short supply (Harbor Freight is HURTING!) but it's also hit domestic production hard. Supplies are down, and demand for some items is up. Add a little civil unrest, an election, and a whole lot of uncertainty, and the herd panics. Toilet paper, guns, ammo, building materials, groceries, and on and on. About the only thing plentiful is gasoline.
So we make do. Out of 2x6s? How about 2x12s? You could rip 2 out of one of those. I needed a cheap circular saw recently, but there were none to be had. Had to spend twice as much, but got a much better tool that works better and will last much longer.
Stay safe, my friends. Don't get too wound up over this - we will get through it.

There was plenty of lumber there. Except 2x6x8. Maybe that was an issue with Covid. Maybe it was an oversight or a contractor had bought it all.

But the quality of what was there was the worst I致e ever seen and it has been bad for years. I literally could not find one, much less 3 boards that were marginally okay out of a whole new stack.

I値l check at the local lumber yard next week. If their stock looks that bad I知 going to finally get a sawmill. ;-)

TeachU2, 12 footers were too long for my shirt because truck and I did not have my trailer with me.

But like I said the 10 foot boards were terrible quality. Did not look at the 12s but no reason to suspect they were any better.

Next week I値l take my trailer to the local lumber yard and will (hopefully) be buying more lumber for another bigger project.

We値l see.

Ammo? Forget about it if you mean 5.56. I壇 love to have a lot more for myself but it is at least somewhat reassuring that what is being made and sold is going into the hands of citizens.

You have more faith in that lumber treatment than I do! Maybe it works "someplace" but that someplace isn't here!

As for nuts and bolts, IF I want GOOD nuts and bolts, I in NO way will buy them from a farm store like TSC ect., I go right to a nut/bolt supply house and I've never got a bad nut/bolt from them!

I've had too many nightmares with TSC grade 8 bolts!!

Try a Pole Barn company. If you need anything affiliated with pole barns they may be cheaper and better quality that the box store. They may not have the variety you really want but for building supplies it works well around here.

I usually break down and just have the guy cut them vs spending another half day trying to find everything I need. Sooner or later I will use 4' sections of PT wood. As for the quality I can remember going to the lumber store with my father and there was always 3 grades of 2x4s. The economy ones that looked like a noodle. The ones dad would buy after sorting through them. They were good for rough framing. And the top quality ones. We never got them. Now, at least everywhere I go, there's only one grade and it's less than the middle grade from way back then. Often you have to sort through the pile to find enough good ones. More than once I've asked the guy to get the forklift to bring down the next stack.

Well it has a 5 star rating so it must be good somewhere although another option is, you can get northern white cedar from my son, he ships cedar all the time up and down the east coast and mid west, some out west >>>>ckshingle.com ....

For nuts and bolts I usually go to the local kubota tractor dealer, for me it's closer and prices are fair. Once in a while I can find deals online for nut and bolts.
