The devil you know vs the one you don't.......

xenophobia!

eta

I'm not sick, I don't know any one who is, I don't know anyone who has been sick with this Wuhan virus.

It just has no impact on my life.

NOW, the idiot PEOPLE that demand precautions, isolation shut downs etc. They have impacted my life.

In times like these, I consider moving home to South Dakota, or moving abroad to Sweden. Can COMMON SENSE prevail?

I like that! I’ll use it on my hardheaded buddy the next time he starts grumbling about masks.

This being a tractor forum, let’s see a show of hands from those that are willing to bypass or eliminate the various filters on their tractor for a few hundred hours. That would really show up the experts who designed the engines, transmissions, etc. what do they know.

I don't know that proves a whole heck of a lot.. We all know the filters keep the engines safe and we all know that even simple dust masks keep our respiratory track safer. That really has nothing to do with keeping us safe from Covid-19, which even most "experts" will agree that our mask arent doing much to keep us safe, and maybe doing a little to keep our spit droplets inside of our own masks. But even then the simple cloth masks we make are probably doing very little compared to a N95 or a good respirator. We treat all masks the same and we know they are not. Much of it is just virtue signalling. "hey look, I am a good caring person. See, I am wearing my home made mask. ". I am looking out for your health friend. Yeah right. But all that said, I wear my mask around people, because it makes them feel better. Same reason I wear my firearm concealed instead of out in the open, even though out in the open is my right. I wear it concealed to make people "feel" better, and to keep some SOB from shooting me first in a robbery attempt. I don't want him to think I am a threat.

The summer flu is presently killing five times as many people in England and Wales as Covid-19.

Death Toll:

1. Influenza and pneumonia: 928
2. Covid-19: 193.
[end quote]

How can one tell what is the true danger?

That's interesting. When you read the actual articles on this, describing the data collected, they say some of the Covid deaths are being counted as pneumonia/flu now instead of Covid. But they also say even these pneumonia/flu numbers are lower than previous years, and they attribute the lower total deaths to wearing face masks and washing hands. It's a win - win.

Profit, IMHO, is like most things, a double edged sword.

I am a closet anthropologist, I've watched people痴 behavior for years and years. Do as I say, not as I do.

Without the incentive to 杜ake a profit (whatever that may be), you end up with most people just cruising, just waiting till Friday.

I believe people need both carrots and sticks. Seems to me many of the sticks have been eliminated.

The opportunity to make a profit is the primary incentive for most people to try something new, work harder, longer, take the extra step, take a chance, keep pushing.

The opportunity to make a profit also corrupts.

Without profit, we get no innovation, with it we get Enron, Apple etc etc etc.

Just 1 quick example. A close friend is a muckymuck in the Biology business, big business! I mentioned the NIHS, National Institute for Health Science. She said, do you know what nihs really stands for? I told her. She said nope.

It痴 the......... Not Invented Here Syndrome.

No sticks there, Just carrots

What痴 the solution?

^^ What's the solution? Balance. Not this all or nothing trend we are headed for. Not wide open, no rules, all profit. Not full of restrictions and no growth. Instead we need level heads and common sense. Balance.

There has got to be a way to fix this! It痴 serious I tell you. Something needs to be invented that would be in the mask and would neutralize all odor. Providing a fresh odor free environment around the nose and mouth.

If you use an actual respirator you can get replaceable filter cartridges that besides being N100 or N95 have an activated charcoal element that filters out a lot of odors. Not so fun to breathe through.

When breathing out through a "non-purge valve" fitted N95 mask, most of the "leakage " takes plase at the edges. that is, the interface between mask and wearer. That is why, people who sport significant facial hair can NOT BE PROPERLY FITTED for N95 PPE.

Please, Don't be an idiot scientist.

And that is why I shaved my 16 year old beard off. I miss it and really, really hate shaving every monrning.

The other huge thing no one is really properly addressing or talking about yet: the massive prevalence of unhealthy people with pre-existing conditions in this country (and frankly, most other developed nations now as well).

If humans were just healthier to begin with, maybe we wouldn't be anywhere close to our current predicament. Obesity, diabetes, heart-disease, COPD, asthma, liver disease, smokers. All well recognized, severe factors for more easily contracting the virus, having a more severe and long lasting reaction, and of course, death.

Even many of the various news articles about the "normal, healthy person contracts covid-19 and spirals downwards quickly" are really just people who probably didn't KNOW about their underlying medical complications yet.

The best way to beat a virus is to have a population of healthy people to begin with. Sadly, our nation has been on a long, downward trend for decades now. $1 cheeseburgers without having to get out of your car, no grocery stores in poor neighborhoods, less time in our busy lives for proper exercise, declining health care provider access and rising insurance rates. It all adds up to, this.
