I went to visit a friend in hospital today. A sign at the front said that to enter you must wear a mask. Luckily I had ordered some and the chemist shop was only a klm away so I went and collected them and returned to the hospital. I walked in and nobody was wearing a mask. I asked at reception about the sign out front and they shook their heads and said, "what sign"?
I put my mask in my pocket....

It said you must have one to enter, didn't say you have to keep wearing it once you're in. Lol.

I went for a 20 mile bicycle ride late this after noon, (after pruning fruit trees to let in the sun)

Two cars passed me by. one car came on the road ahead.

Should I have been wearing a mask? Heck! I wasn't wearing a helmet or eye protection! (I should have had the latter, there were bugs!)

Respect goes two ways!

Yes it does. No one has said you should be wearing a mask when you're alone. Yet you keep blasting away at the folks that are telling you masks work to reduce the spread of the virus. From here, it looks kinda one-way on your part. ;)

The last two comments , one by fatjay, and one by MossRoad,

Make me sad. There is expressed a future not worth living... Masked and afraid, ahh.. err... cautious. Sorry. My xenophobia kicked in.

WAR, Famine, and FEVER. The latter the greatest to FEAR.

How is wearing a cloth mask when in the presence of others a future not worth living? That's just nuts. I pulled an engine from an old truck this weekend and started installing trusses on our garage addition. Took pizza to my in-laws and ate with them in the garage because it was a nice sunny day. Wife and I went for several long walks. To a T, everyone we met along the walks were kind and courteous and stepped to the other sides of the trails as we passed each other. I find most people in the stores to be a lot more friendly and courteous now than before this all started. The only things that have changed is most people realize we are all in this together, and are now less self-centered. Most people.

But alas.... If I tell you something factual. Then end the conversation with "but don't tell anyone". What does that say about me? But alas....
<sigh> You completely missed my point. If you were less concerned about confirming your bias that I am somehow lying about my credentials and what I do, this might be a little more obvious.

But, as you're not, allow me to explain.

Research integrity of findings is crucial. These results are not yet peer-reviewed. So, as I have said on here multiple times, caution should be taken in interpreting them. People asked to see the things I'm working on, so I obliged.

Furthermore, when results are published, they are done so as a complete paper. This is not that. I quickly put together a figure and shared it in an informal setting. My worry is that if the figure were to be copied and posted somewhere else without an appropriate description, it could lead to any number of misinterpretations, because the full context may not be related with the figure.

See what I'm doing here? As a scientist, we try to be responsible in not just performing the research, but also how it is disseminated, to avoid confusion and possible misinterpretations, as occur when individuals try to twist things to fit their narrative.

Hence, I asked individuals to please not share it to prevent it from being distributed without full context, potentially leading to misinterpretation/misunderstanding.

This is a PRIME example of what is referred to as confirmation bias. That is, you go out searching for something to prove your point, disregard all other evidence, and then say "SEE. I WAS RIGHT!!!"

Let's look at what we ACTUALLY know. The WHO made that statement on June 8. Then, every scientist in the country screamed they didn't know what they were saying, and there was significant evidence to indicate they were wrong.

The WHO immediately did the right and responsible thing to do when confronted with evidence that they were wrong. The very next day they admitted it, and retracted their statement. (see WHO clarifies comments on asymptomatic spread of Covid-19)

Then, earlier this month, a definitive study came out proving what earlier studies had been indicating. Namely, asymptomatic spread DOES occur. (Clinical Course and Molecular Viral Shedding Among Asymptomatic and Symptomatic Patients With SARS-CoV-2 Infection in a Community Treatment Center in the Republic of Korea | Infectious Diseases | JAMA Internal Medicine | JAMA Network)

Sadly, professing that you understand these issues is actually making the point that you have no clue what you are talking about. For your own sake and credibility, please stop.

I don't think anyone has the answer to that for sure at the moment.
Next good question. does having Covid-19 make antibodies in your body. and if so, for how long
Next good question. are there multiple strains of Covid-19?.. If you have antibodies for one, are they effective on another if it exists? And for how long?

I have not seen any definitive answers on any of this.
For clarification purposes, there are multiple strains of the coronavirus. Covid 19 is just one entity.

I've questioned the results from the start. They are spouting "positive" results from the beginning and how fast it's spreading.

But the tests got rolled out so fast. And faulty tests were reported from the start. I've always wondered if they are detecting multiple strains of the cornavirus as well as covid 19.

It would explain what my wife has observed of the virus.

Out of the 50 or so people she has known personally through her work (she's a nurse). Only 2 patients at the nursing home got really sick. 2 other patients listed as deaths from Covid 19, were asymptomatic and already actively dieing from other ailments. One of those asymptomatic patients was 107yo, had pancreatic cancer and was on hospice already.

Now back to the rest of the people she knows who tested positive. 4 out of the 50 or so people had mild symptoms that could be attributed to seasonal allergies. Those same people had a history of seasonal allergies and it was mid spring in Arkansas.

The rest had no symptoms at all.

I got similar reports from my doctor as well.

Wow Moss, no wonder your tractor is so small, you don't have space for a bigger one!!!

That's a joke everyone!!! We need more of those to control the fear mongering ravaging this Country right now.

Yep.

We only have a little over an acre at our house. We have about 20 acres 9 miles away. We had a large IH2500b for about 10 years. Once its chores were done, we downsized to something that would do the work we needed to do.

As for a lot of people, we live in an urban area. 'Tis what it is. :)

Yes, blasting away. at "masks work to reduce the spread" ideology. To what end?
How does one rectify the similarity of infection curve of maskless Sweden to that of masked New Jersey? Seasonal.... ?
How does one respond to the virus found in animals?

And when a new, or the same old flu comes next season, we renew all efforts trying to flatten the curve and reduce the spread with more authority? Having ONLY learned that we did not enforce compliance "enough" previously. It's like experiments in socialism, none of the previous efforts did it right. This next time we will.

I see no light at the end of this "reduce the spread" effort other than natural seasonal demise, good hygiene, and healthy life choices.
The mental and emotional burden on society to live in fear of EVERYONE will not lead to any desirable outcome. Children afraid to contact their peers or their parents for fear of killing them. The answer is NOT stepping well to the side of the trail as you pass.
