An oddity I noticed. I have a JD M1008 10ft twin spindle brush cutter. It was available in 540 or 1000 pto speed. Mine is 1000 rpm version. Had to rebuild slip clutch. The 1000 version uses fewer clutch discs than the 540 version. Hmmmmm?? Maybe someone with technical knowledge can explain that one? :)

Power is torque times rpm. For the same rate of power delivery needed, the 1000 rpm version can operate at about half the input torque of the 540 rpm version, hence the drive line and slip clutch can be less massive.

Another example is to think about the tractor climbing a hill. Compare the relatively high rpm and low torque of the engine crank with the much lower rpm and much higher torque at the rear axles. Same principle.

Thats what I thought but wasn't sure. Appears to be easier on the PTO system including shaft assembly?

Yup. Double the speed & you halve the torque. In theory with half the torque you need a PTO shaft that is half the strength, which can mean half the weight & half the price. Reality doesn't always match theory, but a 1000rmp shaft transmitting the same HP as a 540rpm shaft should be lighter & cheaper.

 Now that you put it that way, (I knew there was a reason) I understand!

Excellent explanation.

Sorry to bother you. I was just wondering if you had the part number available for this kit?
I have a M9540 and am looking to upgrade to having dual PTO
Thank you.

The EPTO option on my M9960 was dealer installed when I purchased the tractor. EPTO is the same as 540/1000 aside from gear ratio.

When installed, I asked the dealer for the OEM 540 housing assembly but was told that they MUST return it to Kubota.

Were you required to return the OEM assembly to your dealer when installing yours?
