Kubota L3301
Hey guys,

New to tractors. Just purchased a Kubota L3301 tractor W/Loader. Seems to be in excellent shape with 265 HRS.

I downloaded the owner's manual to do a basic service before I start using it.

I want to change the engine oil first thing. Is it important to use Kubota filters and lubricants?

What about air filters and screens? Are there any items that I should look out for?

A local implement dealer has a Bush Hog Razorback BH5 with the slip clutch for $1,400.00 Will this work well with my tractor?

I am just cutting a 8 acre hay field with it, no heavy brush or trees.

Thanks in advance for your time

After market filters will work fine if you want to use them after all Kubota doesnt make the filters, they use a vendor for those anyway. I never use their oils either since they are about twice the cost of a premium oil I get from Atwoods or Tractor Supply. Just make sure the hydraulic oil meets the specs for your tractor.

As for motor oil, I use Shell Rotella T6 5W-40 in almost everything I own-boat, motorcycle, tractor, lawnmower and Pickup truck. Cant use it in my Honda CRV car since it calls for 0W-30 so I just take it to a Walmart to do the service about once a year since I dont drive it much.

As for your bush hog, I think your tractor would handle a 6 foot but the 5 foot would probably work if you set your tire width to match. You dont want to be running over unmown grass with the inside tires when mowing.

If you buy non-OEM, non-Kubota high quality filters (ie:Baldwin) you will pay the at least as much as for Kubota filters.

An L3301 can pull a 450 pound, light duty Bush Hog 60" wide through dry grass to 48" tall or a 650 pound medium duty Bush Hog 60" wide through tall dry grass and intermittent brush 1" thick.

Like Mr. Fowler, I use Rotella oil and Kubota hydraulic oil. Since my tractor is still under warranty I use Kubota filters.

Same here. Not for warranty, but I really like the quality of the Kubota filters. They are all wrapped or capped to prevent dust and dirt from getting inside the filter. The can is heavier and feels more solid than an equivalent Wix. Little stuff like that matters to me.

Another thing is that I've never found a huge difference in price between quality aftermarket and OEM filters. I know a lot of others have had an opposite experience.

I would agree that there is little difference in price between Kubota filters and quality aftermarket filters. I consider Wix, Baldwin, and Cummins to be quality filters.
I do stick with OEM hydraulic and transmission filters.

Hey guys,

Thank you for the responses. It really helps to learn from folks that have been "tractoring" for a lot of years.

I am sure I am going to have a lot questions as I start getting up to speed on the operation of our tractor.

Once again, thank you

Unless you are a very heavy user;most home owner user average 75-100 a year so oil/filter changes every 2-2-1/2 years.Stick with the Kubota branded fluids and filters.

Congratulations on your (new to you) tractor, hope you enjoy it as much as I do mine. Stick with OEM for the $$ you may save is not likely to have a big pay off. my :2cents:
