Looking at purchasing a Kubota L4701DT

A 6 foot mower is a far better match for an L4701. Which of course makes the trailer even more out of scale for the package.

It was interesting to see the picture on the ad... the backblade/loader/cutter fit on the trailer with some curling of the bucket etc. Ist hat standard? or better to have longer trailer with bucket down etc.
cheers

Hydraulic attachments are supposed to be lowered to the deck and secured.
Lack of enforcement does not change that. I want enough trailer to be able to position the load so the weight is distributed properly and everything is on the trailer.
The vast majority of these assembled packages include trailers that are too small for the job and poorly sized light duty implements that an informed buyer would never bundle together.

I looked at the package in the link. A couple of random thoughts, in no particular order:

First, you can clearly see in the picture of the package that the 6' mower is hanging over the back of the trailer by what is easily a couple of feet. That is definitely a light duty frame on that trailer, and I think not matched well at all to the weight of the package.

Second, that is a 6' mower, not a 5'. Again, I think you're better off with the 6' mower anyway, unless there's some very specific reason you're wanting a narrower one (mowing in woods, or similar).

Third, that is a gear tractor and not a hydro trans one. Not a big deal as long as you're aware of it, and you're ok with operating a geared unit. Have you driven this particular gear tractor around the dealer lot, to get a feel for it?

Fourth, get those rear tires filled with RimGuard. Especially when dealing with slopes. It aids in traction and lowers your center of gravity.

Hi, new to the forums. I haven't had land or a tractor for 15 years so looking at getting back in the saddle. We just bought 20 acres of vacant land, mostly clear with a nice smattering of trees and tree line. The property is not flat. The rise from the road to where we want to build at the back is a 90' rise. This area will all need to be brush hogged as will the flat pasture. I will have 2-3 horses so moving a few small round bales and a bit of snow scraping and general farm stuff.

I was looking at the JD 3032E but quickly realized it would be underpowered for that uphill climb pulling a brush hog. So I found this Kubota package:

L4700DT 47 HP with 39 HP coming off the PTO
5' Land Pride heavy duty brush hog
Land Pride box blade
Kubota front end loader
18' equipment trailer with brakes

Price is $31,000 0% financing

Is there any incentive for me to wait until Jan or is this the best price? Which I kinda think it is.

If you enter your general location in your profile, it will help others to help you.

So I should add a HST to this tractor. The list price of the tractor is the same as the package price so basically they are throwing the rest of the stuff in for "free" basically. Even if the trailer is inadequate, I can get a better used trailer and keep the one that came with the package. You can't have too many railers!

I also would recommend an HST tractor. The L4701 Kubota is an odd-ball tractor(not saying it won't be a good rig),not many sold and the loader is a little weak for a tractor that size.May want to look at a MX4800.Six ft. implements should not be a problem.
I.E,Kubota loaders are roughly capable of 2 times lift capacity of the number on the loader.

I looked up the specs on that trailer they offer, it seems to be well made. It is 18'. That is the length I have too.
But, I would go with HST.
I did move up to the MX5400 HST. Not sure they make an MX4800 anymore.

I see what you are saying but this tractor 90% of the time is going to be running a brush hog. The bucket will get light use. I do need to have the option of moving a small round bale with a rear mounted spike or maybe do a bit of snow blading.

Couple of notes.

1. I also up-specc'ed to the MX5400 from the L4701. You may not need to, but I'm glad I did. It's also a wider tractor, so more stability.

2. Make sure you account properly for the weight. The bare tractor weight does not tell the tale. By the time you add loader, bucket, brush hog, and loaded tires, well, in the case of my MX5400 that's nearly 4 tons (compared to the ~3700 lb bare weight). Add in two to three thousand pounds for the trailer, and now you're talking about substantial truck/towing power needs. My truck is only rated for 9000 lbs, so... I can't tow my setup with it unless I strip it down.

3. Kubota loaders, the number on the loader is the approximate weight it can lift (at the pin of course), in kilograms, so multiple by 2.2. Of course you may see far less than that depending on what you're lifting and how you're lifting it. In that one regard, if you're going to lift with a grapple and third function, gears may give you more lift, I find my grapple curiously weak, but you need to bear in mind you're sharing hydraulic function between the grapple, loader, and drive, and so if you're using more than one thing at a time, you're reducing power to the others. That said, I have HST and love it, but I wanted something simple. Note that I'm not saying you can't do two things at once with the hydraulics (as some people might claim). But it does affect your lifting capability if you're doing something really heavy. I have not had any problem with it while moving gravel and similar things though. It's the grapple, mostly that seems weak.

Side note: Messicks has a video showing that you can abuse your hydraulics with grapples and third functions, if you're not careful, resulting in potential damage. So think twice about using the grapple to try to lift out 1 ton rocks.
