They will spend millions attracting business and nothing to retain....

The biggest issue right now is 50+ public schools have been determined to have offensive names... Lincoln, John Muir and even Senator Feinstein... as if the most important issue.

We had a Target store here about 25-30 years ago that got shoplifted out of business.

Same thing happened in Dallas 35-40 years ago.

Some criminals go as far as actively seeking television and social media coverage...they are called politicians.

Probably best you were not around to stop them. You would likely end up in jail.......

Covid isn稚 the problem preventing actions against the thieves. California and several other states have pretty well given the green light to the thieves with a variety of policies. The thieves are probably betting on the odds that little attention will be given to the case. I suspect your case will become a file number in the computer system and little else will happen.

in about 2010 the Mayor and chief of police of Portland OR came on TV and formally announced they did not have the resources to investigate common property crime.

they did urge the victims to go to their web page and document the theft etc. Thank goodness for that!

Not enough resources? How about too many phony baloney pensions and disability recipients?

Now, I'm the SOB again and I couldn't care less! I recently read that first responders are the group most likely to abuse the disability system, police and fire. I know none of you would do it but, in a number of cases, my friends singular goal in life is to find some pathetic disability doc, pay cash and get on the gravy train. That is just one of a thousand examples of where our resources are being wasted and it's a shame but more and more people are willing to join in.

I think it exemplifies why geographic areas are shunned... if customers/visitors/merchants don't feel safe it's the community that pays the price..

After decades of downward spiral things had turned around... younger generations were seeking out urban areas and along with it came investment and prosperity.

Now the urban cores/mass transit/etc are shunned in a reversal.

Due to the number suffering loss yesterday maybe there will be action?

I had an opportunity to listen to our local sheriff when he addressed our small community a few months ago. Please believe me, law enforcement officers want to put those people away and they do what they can to accomplish it. But they have the politicians to deal with. The sheriff told of arresting people with long histories of criminal behavior, just to see them back on the streets within days or even hours. We have a local bad guy who killed a woman in a traffic accident when he was high. That happened well over a year ago, and he's still on the streets. AND he's been arrested several times for property crimes (theft) and for driving with no license. And when a criminal is sentenced, they serve considerably less time than they're given.

But I think we have it good compared with people in Seattle or San Francisco. I read in the paper recently that the police won't even arrest a shoplifter in SF now. There are thieves who openly sell shoplifted items on the streets there.

I think if I were dictator there would probably be three punishments.... a fine, a month in jail, or hanging. But darn it! No one will vote for me.

Friend runs a storage facility.
He has lots of land so he dedicated that to RV/trailer storage and that is all fenced in with many cameras as well.
Also much lighting.
Seems catalytic convertors are in high demand as this is the 3 rd time this summer he has been raided.
Each time they averaged 5-6 convertors.
Cameras do catch the activity but with Covid masks being common little chance of identification.
The perps have also hit most of the malls as well.
Last episode was the parking lot at a long care facility hitting the nurses cars.
Police seem to limit their action to writing reports for insurance claims, and recently calling them goes to voice mail.

Our local 20 year beat officer who was always most responsive is now charged for killing under a new law.

I saw him leave in a hurry answering a call at Walmart of a man threatening shoppers and staff... 40 seconds that changed his life forever and made news around the world...

We often think criminals are stupid but they often are a very selective type of smart. This year Chicago raised the felony theft threshold to $1000 (although the state threshold is $300) and have seen a tremendous increase of shoplifting and theft in the $900 to $999 range. It seems they can quickly do math. If caught, they get the equivalent of a traffic ticket.
