Good evening,

Just for info.
My small tractor Yanmar AF22 has been stolen during the night on october 2019.
Look what they did with their truck or trailer on my meadow barrier.
They did'nt manage to cut the chain as it is from a forestry chain slasher and it is quite uncutable with a saw.

Do they act like this in US ?

Phil

Unfortunately, if somebody wants something bad enough, they'll find a way to get it.

There are no limits as to what a criminal will do in order to get what he wants. In this day and age, I just make sure I have good insurance coverage and do the best I can to keep things locked up.

I don't agree at all. There ar ways to keep your equipment from being stolen. Few people want to go through the expense and more importantly, the BOTHER. Security ALWAYS involves inconvenience.

Of course, location always figures big into the problem.

Sorry about your tractor being stolen. Must always keep tractors outa sight. Looks like a coordless reciprocating saw was used on the chain and they cut until the batteries went dead. To be strictly honest, there is not a single chain or lock that cannot be defeated by determined thieves. Most around here put portable generators and a highspeed grinding tool in the back of the truck. 5 mins for a chain and your tractor is theirs. They bring their own trailers with a tow winch for moving the tractor off the lot. Messicks has a video of thieves stealing a $90,000 skid steer right out of the dealers yard.

I lived all over the world, and I found except for Nigeria and Russia, the US has the highest crime in the world. Much of it just goes unreported or the US crime statistics would be far worse.

Cool. What are the key ways to keep one's equipment from being stolen? Shed some light perhaps brother?

My grandad had unique ways to deal with thieves... electrification of may things worked quite well for him... and of course his array of shotguns were readily at hand. Times have changes since then... you can't really hunt rabbits in your backyard in whitby these days.

Sorry about your tractor being stolen.

I too was robbed a couple years ago. I was in the middle of the restoration of a 1962 Italian crawler tractor. I had it apart and spread all over the garage. The thieves took about €7000 worth of tools, very thick copper wire and some more random stuff but somehow didn't took any of the parts of the tractors. Not even a single bolt. Had they stolen a part from the tractor and I couldn't finish it for sure.

Where in Europe are you located, Phil? if you don't mind me asking of course.

Person I know had a motorcycle stolen. There was a disc lock on one of the brake discs and a heavy chain through the frame to a post cemented into the ground. The chain was cut by an oxyacetylene torch.

Here is the interesting part. The torch was left behind by the thieves. It too was stolen from a shop nearby (not the motorcycle owner)! Apparently they did have a problem with the disc lock so the bike was stripped for parts and left in a ditch miles away.

Sorry about your machine. Do they act like this in the U.S.? That’s funny. They steal your car with you in it at a stop light. They are being kind stealing it just parked in your driveway.
