I've used this for quite a while. Same idea. Much safer than a ladder. I could be hit by a meteor or more likely a moron driving and fooling with a cell phone. I am not worried about a hose. Never get higher than a few feet anyway.

I've got the same setup and use it all the time.

That said, is there a cylinder prop that can be used to not allow the FEL arms to drop if a hose were to burst? As I gotten older, I realize I am not as indestructible as I used to think I was! Still on the mend from a ladder collapse incident 2 months ago that left me clinging to the new barn roof 20' up, don't need any more equipment failure accidents.

A hose could break! Use something safe...like climbing a ladder!

The basket is much better for picking apples than the system we use. I usually lay a couple planks across the pallet forks and tell the wife to make sure she doesn’t step on the end of the plank beyond outside the width of the forks.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m not totally safety unconscious, I did take some bailing twine and fastened the boards down to the forks in case she did.

How difficult would it be to rig up a second set of controls in the basket? (Ducking and running) :)

Considering you’d need all 4 functions and the position of the platform is changing it would be pretty hard. I don’t see much gain anyway. You’d need to be able to move the tractor to gain much.

If you have a set of pallet forks, buy one of those caged 270 gal totes. You can usually find them on CL for 35-75 bucks. Remove the 4 bolts holding the top bars on and pull the plastic tank out. Strap the cage (I use a 2" ratchet - way overkill) to the forks. You now have a man basket for trimming limbs, cleaning gutters or siding, or I'm my case helping pick apples before they drop. Not OSHA approved I'm sure, but as safe as you want to make it for sure.

If this has been posted before, my apologies. Just thought I'd post it after using it the other day.

I like it. Your tractor is much cleaner than mine

I agree that it would take some "doing" and the gain would probably make it not worthwhile.
It is, however, interesting to think about what would be required to make it work. A tractor with hydrostat, power steering and self leveling loader would be a good start. A gimbal mounted bucket in lieu of a basket would seem to be a good option and that might be true even with a "two person" setup for safety. (I could see the tractor operator hitting the bucket dump by mistake.)

So, after further attempts to make this all complicated, a quick-attach boom type device with the gimbal mounted basket might be feasible for two person type setup. Yes, the safety and liability implications are horrendous anytime our feet leave terra firma.
