/pine, I think you missed the point of me starting the thread. Read the next couple of sentences in the original:

"Maybe this can be a challenge too. That is, inspiration and ideas to do something for others that you normally might not."

I debated about starting this post at all for a couple of days, as the point was not to turn this into a "humble brag", and my fear was people would misinterpret it (check).

Rather, the hope was that by some people sharing things they have done, and the good that has come out of it, it might inspire the rest of us to do a little more. There is enough doom and gloom going on that we don't hear about the good things enough. After all, the season is supposed to be about giving, not getting.

For what it's worth, most normal people would take it the way you meant it.

Sometimes a picture will spread a little joy, think this was posted by someone here, cant remember who or when.

That reminds me of the guy, Simon Beck, that does intricate snow shoe patterns in the Alps.

If the link doesn't work, just Google Simon Beck.

I understand the point you are making, yet I don't agree with you. He is trying to brighten somebody's holiday by giving them a very nice, unexpected surprise. Talking about it here, where he feels a bit of comradery is different than with a stranger.

Reading comprehension is a good thing, try it some times.
Understand the actual POINT of "leave a random $100 tip for a waiter/waitress".
It was soley an homage to his friend - GET IT.
It's not about the $100.00, it's about how and where that $100.00 is spent and it is NEVER EVER to be spent
outside the bounds of that amazing tribute to his friend.

You can spend $100.00 to the homeless till the cows come home, why don't you?

Nice!

Regarding kids these days.

They are rude, uncontrollably, uneducated, spoiled brats, lazy and basically worthless.

Julius Ceaser said that.

Some things don't change.

On another note, I believe that I found where my donation is going this year.

Read this and remember it, the next time that you start grousing about "Kids these days"
That's really cool. As a University Professor I deal with these "kids" on a daily basis. I often find myself shaking my head concerned for the future.

But, at the same time, I am continually amazed at how engaged, motivated, and ambitious they are as well. I regularly come into contact with students that are going to school full time, working a part time job, playing a varsity sport, and involved in multiple clubs and outreach/service activities; excelling at all of them.

I look back at what I was doing at that age and, well, ... yeah.
