Most of our Beech is hollow down here in Southern Indiana when it gets any size to it.

W have some good size beech here. My brothers property has some very tall ones over 100' close to 3 foot diameter.

Can't remember many New Years like this. A calm, sunny 20 degrees - perfect. I've been working along the top of this ledge. Thought a pic looking over the edge would be good. It's 300 feet pretty near straight down to civilization. My closest neighbor as the crow flies is in that round opening this side of the road. The top of the ridge is our boundary line.

When we have a south east gale stuff along here takes a beating. The wind funnels down the valley then accelerates as it gets squeezed pushing up over the ridge. Makes for easy firewood with plenty of room to work because there isn't a lot that stays upright long. This yellow birch went over last week.

Nice view in that first picture, do you ever get tired of seeing it? ;)
By this time tomorrow all of that bare ground peeking through will be buried in white stuff. Winter may finally be arriving after all, for a while anyways.

Oh goody some more pictures to pick apart. Top of the ridge looks scary even from here, imagine the work-out you'd get going up and down that hill with cable and chains, also looks like a good place for a deer stand.

Now that yellow birch looks like yellow birch to me and the same I have here, evidently it didn't get cross breeded like your beech. think Y B is more stringy and one BTU better then W B but white birch is worth lot more in 50" cuts. Dont tell me that winch is all way up.........
