Ok I'm sure Krpan winches are a good winch but a big turn off for me is this two rope engagement design, I dont see the need unless you in the stand back 50' club, for me, I want hands on right next to tractor with ONE rope or button.... And whats with a screen 10' up in the air, the screen needs to be wider not higher.....

IMO Fransgard winch is a far better more simple winch design, the only issue with Fransgaurd is cable change, but with simple mod that can be made real easy. On plus side I did like the way grease was applied to Krpan winch chain. Now the two speed gear redution, if that can be in or out thats good but if it's a fixed slower winch line speed thats bad, then theres the 200+ feet of cable, only needed in a swamp or mountain, as of 14 years and counting I have yet to need over 100' of cable, 3004 Fransgaurd winch comes with 130' of cable.

Side note if the sale's woman had a english accent I might like the Krpan winch better........... Fransgaud man stand..........

Over the years I've owned my PTO winch, I've pulled all of the 165' of wire rope out two times, both times I backed up 10' and got everything hooked.

Having lots and lots of rope to me, is just more of a chance of a rats nest on the drum, and a LOT more money spent to replace it. Then again, I've never had to replace my rope........yet, I'm sure it's coming at some point though.

I replaced my wire rope several times since 07, mostly because out to far dragging wood over rocks and or log catches on stump I didn't see and breaks the cable in half, again wire rope out to far and it is only 5/16". Yes wheeling to much cable out can make a rats to, first time we agree on something, oh well accidents happen.........

I've used all 230' of cable on my winch on a number of occasions and a couple of times have dropped the tree toward the tractor and still needed to add a 20' chain to the end of the cable to reach it. However, I'll admit that 90% of the time I use less than 150 feet. The long runs are not from your typical logging job. I've built trails on my own property and helped out others with theirs. When clearing for a new trail sometimes I can't drive the tractor over the trail to get to the next group of trees until we bring an a dozer or excavator. We don't want to bring the heavy equipment until we have the clearing done, so we tend to stretch things out as far as they'll go.

I really liked the 230 foot cable on my winch when I got it; we'd had lots of snow and rather than plowing my trails I was able to drag trees down them. Then after about a month I had the rat's nest which others mention and had to make (2) 100 foot lengths and (1) 30 foot rat's nest. I was going to replace it but was shocked at the price of cable. At any rate unless dragging down an existing trail, if I go out much more than 100 feet I spend more time running out and resetting chokers after the tree hangs up yet again...
