Welcome to TBN
Good Morning and greetings from Alaska (a nice and balmy 0 here on our mountain this morning).
As a retired ER Doc, I am not much of a mechanic. I live on the side of a mountain at about 1600 feet so we get a fair amount of snow and I have 3/4 mile of driveway to plow. I don't use it a great deal. A few times a winter, I run out of room to push the snow off the side of the road, and get to have fun on my 450C pushing the snow to widen the road so I can continue plowing. We also heat with wood, and I use the cat to pull trees out of the woods. I also use it 2-3 times a summer to grade the road to remove pot holes. I bought the cat back in 1982 when we were building our home. It really is fun to use.
In all these years, I never have had any problem starting it as long as I plug it in for a couple of hours to warm it up. I went to start it a couple of weeks ago and it wouldn't crank over at all. When I switched on the key, the gages would flicker, but nothing at all happened when I pressed the start button. I always put a charger on the battery when I plug in the cat to warm it up so I figured that the battery was fully charged, but just in case, I tried a different battery. That didn't help. Two days later, I gave it another try, and this time I wiggled the shift lever back and forth to make sure it was in neutral and then tried starting again. After pushing the start button a couple of times, it fired right up with no problems. I turned the cat off, and then had to wiggle the shift lever again a couple of times and it started right up again. This makes me think that the problem is either in the Starter Push Button or the Neurtral Safety Switch.
How difficult is it to replace the Neutral Safety Switch, and where it is located?
Thank you so much for any help and advice.
