Bought it 2 weeks ago used from a dealer out of state, runs fine, how long I have 0 clue. I can't even in good conscience sell it to someone else.

was the wrong filters used at some point? it appears the filter was changed as the new one (which looked slightly used) looks identical.

You most likely will be fine. If you haven't noticed any blue smoke by now I would change oil, filter and forget it happened.

Really? I'm planning to ask for either a new engine, or for them to take the tractor back. i have read this is a death sentence for a diesel. i can't see how it isn't. its as dusty inside the intakes as the outside of the machine. I've only run the machine for 5 hours. I have 0 idea on oil consumption.

Good luck getting your money back..That's why I buy OEM filters and change them vs blowing them out because one little hole in the paper will wreck a engine.. On another note my uncle had a 580 Case on a big construction job and somebody took the air filters out and the engine was ruined....

Is it new or used? Dirt is not good for any engine. However, they are more forgiving than most people realize. If it is new and under warranty then certainly I would be asking for a new engine. If it is used then it usually is sold as is. In that case I would do as I stated in the previous post.

If bought used from out of state, I suspect your options are limited. Most purchases like that are considered "as-is" and it's incumbent on the buyer to check everything over. These sorts of things need to be checked before the sale!!

you pull air intake's and look down manifolds? its a legit question, i generally look everything over. i have never had or seen a need even on neglected equipment to look behind the air filter, the filter was new on this machine Obviously changed at this point. this is a first for me, it will be the last.

If you are concerned do a compression test as Rick suggested. After you change the oil and filter and you corrected the problem the damage is over. If it is not smoking that tractor will probably last many years to come.

I am concerned. That said i called about 15 dealers today and asked, some have seen it(not specifically the 26) usually skid steers, and they say as long as no blue smoke or oil consumption, clean it up and put it back together. so i guess thats what im doing
