Not sure if you're in the Kerrville area? Did you know Western Artist/ Sculptor Clay Dahlberg? He passed away about ten days ago.

Didnt know him. And the snow hasnt come yet either.

Very light mist that is accumulating. Some roads are very slick. Saw someone say that US87 was closed north of Fredericksburg.

Not sure how to describe it but about 1/4" of very wet snow fell last night early this morning and is very packed. Makes me think of a layer of salt that got wet, it breaks up pretty easy. They had predicted sleet/ice. Then the snow started finally about 3:30pm and ended (so far) about an hour ago. about 2-1/2 to 3" is all we got. the wind has been high so we have some drifts. Roads are covered but fairly passable with some common sense. Well, what used to be common sense.

My Dad always dripped an outside faucet. I always have done the same. I saw on the news that plumbers recommend dripping a faucet. Is the only reason they (usually city officals) say NOT to drip a faucet is lower water pressure?

I am at the bottom of the hill and the road. I am way below the water tank. I have never dripped a faucet for longer than a day or two. Looks like I will need to drip it all week. Am I missing something in allowing it to drip? I check it every hour or so and have a sticky note on my bathroom mirror to remind me to check the drip.

In Central Texas it is now 5° with -15° wind chill. Winds 15 to 20 mph with 30 mph gusts. 3 inches of dry snow on the ground. Going to be the same tomorrow.

What's with rolling blackouts. One would think your grid to be sufficient with the Texas heat? Meaning IMHO Summer electrical use would be higher than Winter electrical use.

Short answer heat pumps heat strip.

Refrigerant is used to heat the coils and the heated air is then pushed back into the room. A heat pump will run alone until the temperature reaches a certain point usually below 35 degrees. Once it hits that threshold, the heat strip will take over and provide constant electric heat.

Good description of what I have, txdon. One little item you omitted. When the heat strip takes over, your electric meter tries to spin itself off the wall.

Massive influx of people the last several years as well and no new power plants.

That's for sure!
