The two times my tractor gelled up I had used white bottle Power Service, winter rate.

Thank you all for the suggestions. It sounds like it's inevitable that gelling will occur occasionally, as there are too many things not in my control. I chose the optilube after reading about all the different additives, but it seems each one has people who swear by it. Maybe I'll try the Power Service next time.
I will definitely try a different gas station and I'll buy some extra filters to have around. I still don't really understand why the filter gelled, but nothing else did.

My garage definitely never gets below the mid 40's, and that would be really unusual. I keep my jug of diesel fuel in the garage and it's fine.
I guess I'll buy some extra filters to have around.
What do you guys think of the black pitting on the walls of the fuel tank? I know the pictures weren't great, but it doesn't seem like it's related to the gelling problem. I will ask the dealer to look at it since it's well under a year old still.

Does it look like rust? hard to tell in the picture...

It's black, so I don't think it's rust. I'll try to get a better picture.
It looks like erosion into the tank wall, not like buildup on the tank wall. And it's only in some areas. I'll try for a better photo and will post it.

Your fuel leaves your tank, goes through the filter, through the fuel pump, injectors, etc... and any of it that isn't used goes back to the tank and the cycle repeats. As your fuel gels, as someone else mentioned, the paraffin starts to solidify. The solids get sucked into the filter and concentrated there, as they can't pass through the filter.

Your local Amsoil dealer also sells diesel fuel additives.

Diesel Fuel Additives: Shop Diesel Fuel Additives - AMSOIL

I have ran Diesel Injector Clean in my Diesel trucks for as long as it's been around back decades then add Cold Flow also starting in November. For my MT240 I have been using the All in One and my tractor that sits outside under a carport started just fine when we got down to 0F last week.

If the OP has extra jugs, siphon the summer fuel out and get some winter blend from a station for trucks. Replace the filter. Use the other fuel when it gets warmer out. I just did this on my TC.

It's not that hard. You just have to be aware of it. I mentioned before, I put samples in my freezer to see what happens. I only ever had issues when I had summer fuel in my equipment, never thought about it, it got cold, and I got a rude surprise. Trying to fix it, when it happens isn't always that easy. No SOS formulas can work if you no longer have flow and your engine won't run.

I am not sure what additives can help with gelling fuel. However up in the colder states such as the dakotas the gas stations offer #1 in winter. #2 is normal diesel, and there are summer and winter blends. #1 is a lighter fuel. At my friends in MN we use #1 in winter in the equipment and have never had a problem. #2 works most of the time, however when in the -20's (air temp not windchill) you can get gelling issues. Also how much red die fuel does a truck stop go through? You cant use it on semi trucks, I would not be surprised if it was summer blend. Just because they go through lots of on road diesel, does not mean they go through all types of diesel. Also I would not put it past NH to not allow a true winter blend due to environmental reasons. Last weekend I was running a skidsteer that is stored outside and it was -15 when I started it with #2 red winter blend diesel the low the prior night was -22.

RuffDog has the best idea for solving the immediate issue. I would also start buying onroad diesel in the winter from the truck stop, or buying offroad diesel in the winter from a Co-Op or fuel distributor that services farmers. The key problem here I believe is you bought diesel that was not winter blend off road diesel due to low sales volume at the truck stop. Your two week low of +5 will not gell winter blend diesel.
